Hello everyone. I am new to the page. I drive a 1999 3.4L v6 Tacoma with 345k miles on it. Have always done pretty frequent maintenance. Lately my truck has been running pretty rough. And eventually it threw a code for the cylinder 4 misfire. In my mind, it was no big deal. The ride sounds brutal. But it’s happened before, and it’s always just been plugs and wires replacement to solve the problem.

well unfortunately this one was a little different. I had bought all 6 plugs, and the wires. And replaced them as normal (I replace them about every 1.5 years or so). Well when I replaced them, fired it up, the code was still present. It drove fine. I cleared the code, drove great for a few hours. Had made a quick pit stop at my dads for a few minutes, fired it up. Started misfiring again. I got it home, read the same code.

Had gone to oreillys, bought a coil pack (they only had one in stock). So I replaced the pack that runs #4. Light still on, truck still misfires.

so then I resulted to fuel injectors. Called oreillys, they only had 1 for 150$… ran out of options, bought it, placed it on cylinder 4… still misfires. Still the same code.

at this point I’m pretty lost. Running out of options and money unfortunately. Apart from a few odd sensors that I’ve seen online (which I feel like the code reader would’ve thrown a code for that sensor), I feel like I could be experiencing possibly a head gasket. I’ve never had any water in the oil. And I just replaced my radiator. No oil present when I did that a few months ago. Sorry for the read, but some help would be much appreciated.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Pull the number 4 coil and see if the coil tip is dry or covered in oil. If it’s wet I’ll guess you need new spark plug tube gaskets. Good luck!

thank you. Have been checking my plugs and the boots to the coils. Nothing has been wet with any oil.

    Update:

I have replaced the camshaft sensor. Light still throwing the same cylinder 4 code. And along with that came a new clanking sound.

also drained the oil. No water or metal in there. So I doubt it could be a HG issue
