From the point I first saw this unit I thought to myself "this is what I have been waiting for" and was very excited at the possibility of owning it. Well I have read through this entire thread, viewed videos over and over and I now am not totally sold. I see a lot of problems although many seem fixable. I like things that work as they are suppose to.
So I know this is an open-ended question but is it the general consensus that this is worth purchasing?

Honestly I love mine. But I quit using zLink for Apple CarPlay. I just use the built in Bluetooth for my iPhone. It connects everytime…I can play pandora thru it and make phone calls and texts using Siri and it works seamlessly. I bought a Wi-Fi OBD2 dongle and use it for the torque app exclusively now. Only time I’m not using torque is when I’m off-roading and using my mapping program to navigate with. But Torque is running in the background mostly to monitor tranny temps.

So you don’t use Apple Music? Do you use the built in navigation?

I dont use apple music but if I did i'm sure it would play over the units bluetooth just like pandora does. I do not use the built in Nav. On the streets I just use my phones nav as I have it mounted off the oh shit handle. Off road I use the viewranger app that is downloaded onto the aucar unit. I have almost all of california, nevada and Arizona maps downloaded to the unit to use with viewranger for off the grid navigation. Heres a pic of viewranger and a snail trail from a Death Valley trip.

How did you set up Bluetooth to use your phone? When I click phone it doesn’t load my contacts. I’ve been using zlink but my calls always break up. What app do you have set to play music in settings? Mines set to zlink right now.

I need a manual for this thing I’m stuck with zlink because I don’t know what anything does.

in order to use the navigation (google maps) I need to make a hot spot?

I just paired my phone to the aucar units bluetooth app its named BT-3384 on my unit

    IMG_6532.jpg

Make sure that the sync contacts is on in the bluetooth settings within the BT-3384 bluetooth connection

    IMG_6534.jpg

This pics shows all my contacts sync'd to the aucar units bluetooth app

    IMG_6535.jpg

This pics shows the pandora music playing thru the bluetooth app. Mind you that I do have to start the pandora app on my phone to start it playing but after that I can use the steering wheel controls for everything else. You also have to have the bluetooth app on the aucar unit open also....but then you can let it go to the background if you are running other apps...like in my case the Torque app.

I love that the speedo in the ODB app doesn't turn red until 180MPH! :D:D:D

I downloaded the torque app but i am getting zero obd data to the unit via the supplied obd cable ? you mentioned a wifi dongle, if you use that wifi dongle can you use any other wifi features at the same time ie: pandora, youtube etc ?

No, you can not use any other wifi if you are using the OBD2 WiFi dongle. You can use any bluetooth feature from your phone to the head unit. Pandora works and so does apple music or music you have downloaded to your phone.

You would think that, but that isn’t the case. Seems as if the only data it receives from their supplied cable is speed and rpm and even that only works on their readout and no other apps. It’s the reason I bought the obd2 Wi-Fi dongle. I did run into an issue where I tried to run the Wi-Fi dongle and their cable plugged in at the same time using an adapter cable but it interferes with the torque app getting hood readings for the tranny temps. The needles were bouncing everywhere. So as of right now I am not using the headunits obd2 cable it’s unplugged.

Is there a way to change the temperature control from degrees to, say, numbers from 1 to 10? I have a 2010 and the degrees are arbitrary as the original climate control did not have any temperature sensor.

You assume it is made here. My guess it is made in China and rebranded here.

I don't see any reason why the joying accessories wouldn't work for the tesla hu, they are both Android hu's. Just need someone to order them to test.
