How do you get your stereo out if you have a airbag key ?

    Hello everyone, was wondering if anyone knew how to get past the airbag key in order to pull the stereo out, Im trying to install a grom, thnx

    I don't think it makes a difference.

    To remove the stereo, you pop the climate control panel off (just clips in) and you should be able to remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the stereo in.

    Pull the fan speed dial off. Grab the white web you see with needle nose pliers and pull. The AC controld will pop out. Look inside and there are 4 10mm bolts you need to take out. Use an extension. Then the radio will pop out.

    That is it .... I have removed mine and have the "key" switch .... not to worry.

    back to bone stock.
    i used a plastic spatula i had to gently pry the AC panel off. it came off easy, and then it is business as usual.

    Yep I used a puddy knife to remove mine. I tried an awl one time and it slipped and I managed to scratch my AC control bezel :(

    I think he is asking because he saw the grom installation video on youtube. If you are doing it that way, I think you can pop off the airbag key the same way as if it was a blank (as in the video). Then with your finger you should be able to pop out the climate controls from the back.

    If not; pop out the blank on the left side of the radio and once you pop out the climate controls from the left side with your fingers, you should be able to kind of grab it from the front, and completely pop it out.

    Thanks everyone for your input, I was able to get a small flathead through one of the cover mounting holes and press down on the clip to remove the climate controls, Im now rockin with my Ipod, CHEERS !

    When I did my stereo I tried to do the same thing as the you tube video...but in my truck the 4x4 switch and the air bag key get in the way.

    As someone said....plastic spatula/paint scraper does the trick.
