does anyone here have a specific product recommendation for gap filler/expanding foam to seal up a gap between wood and concrete?

the door to my basement was lazily put together by the previous owners, there is a gap between the broken and worn down concrete and the wood frame. now during heavy rains, some water and dirt is getting down into the basement between this gap. Its not enough to damage or worry about, but I just want to avoid the potential for problems down the road.

I can get a pic of it in a little while, if that would help anyone.

Great Stuff is basically all you'll find for DIY types. They do have several different types for different applications. Any big box store should have it.

I would probably recommend a low expansion foam, so you don't push your door frame out of square. Also, expanding foam isn't going to fix the whole issue, you need to waterproof the outside.

thanks for the reply! I'm waiting on a pic of it when someone gets to the house today. My plan is to fill the gap, and then use some kind of weatherstripping on the door. I know it won't be perfect, but I'm in southern california, so i figure it'll stand up to 99% of the weather we get here. If you have other suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing them!

Maybe some clear silicone on the top part in the corners. You should be able to take the trim pieces off where the big screws are and apply foam or sealant under the door sill.20220117_131815.jpg

oh I see, so its not that kind of door. its an outside, flat door, that opens up, on top of a staircase that leads down to the basement. I'll be sure to post a pic when I get it, so it makes sense.

I'm not sure as I buy it at a local lumber/building supply store.

Home Depot and Lowes sometimes have it. Otherwise, Amazon does. Sashco makes some good stuff.

I used Sashco's MorFlexx Stucco caulking when I repainted my house last year. It worked really well. I had a bazillion fine stucco cracks and filled every stinking one of em with Morflexx and Sika stucco patch. :bananadead:

Not sure if it counts as home improvement but we had some gnarly winds come through and power surges last night. Heard a pop and I guess we op checked our surge protector for the downstairs TV/entertainment system. Glad to say the protector did its job and smelled terrible afterwards. She definitely got toasted

ended up replacing with same brand and more outlets.

That happened to us a couple years ago. Company was cutting trees and one fell on the lines. You could hear it happen even though it was MILES away. It fried like 4 or 5 of mine. They fried so hard it tripped the circuit breakers that were feeding those circuits. Took out a couple things in the garage that wasn't on surge protectors.

Tentatively closing this Friday. Got a reservation for a UHaul trailer with gate so I can load up the mowers, my toolbox, and other shit. Gotta pull carpet and run cable this weekend. Following weekend we should be moving in. I've done little to no packing; pretty much just gonna shove stuff in the truck

Ok lots a pictures but finally wrapping up basement bathroom install... did everything besides concrete work, and I also had someone make the cabinet doors for me. First big project like this that kind of included a little of everything... framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, flooring, tiling, cabinet making, etc etc still have a couple details to finish up, mainly caulking, final paint touch up and backsplash for sink. Just happy the bulk of it is over:bananadead:
