Best way to clean gauge cluster plastic?

There are so many different answers on Google I can't figure out what to use. Has anyone cleaned theirs and had good success without scratching? Mine is dirty and not just dust and needs to be cleaned. Thanks.

 

I use a "micro-fiber" towel that I moisten with warm-water and dot of Dawn liquid soap...gently clean plastic and avoid circular motion...immediately dry off with dry micro-fiber towel...I've had good luck with this...don't use Windex and don't use a terry cloth towel/washcloth...mild non-abrasive detergent is key!!

 

Like he said .... micro-fiber....... you may not need any cleaner ........ I've done without and it works.

 

Like others have posted, use microfiber cloth. Be careful cause the plastic is really easy to scratch.

 

If you do get scratches in there, there are plastic cleaner/polishes out there that work well and don't scratch. Motorcycle shops have good stuff for bike windshields. I use Plexus spray, but McGuiar's makes plastic cleaner, as do others.

 

Sand paper and laundry detergent!

 

Be careful not to make eye contact either. The plastic scratches if you look at it wrong.

I use McGuire's Plast-X with a micro fiber towel. Works great. I also use it to polish headlights and tail lights. makes them look great.

if you frequent detailing forums you'll learn that cheap microfibers can actually induce scratches, even though they feel soft.

a high quality microfiber and a high quality protectant cleaner or instant detailer should be all you need. it will help keep any dirt or particles left over during cleaning from scratching during wiping.

X2. Worked great when I was tinting my tails. Gonna start using it on heads and tails once the weather warms up.

 

Sandpaper, wire brush, laundry detergent and don't look at it directly. Thanks for the humor. I already use all of these to wash the outside so I don't need to buy anything additional. (put it in cheap mods?) I think I will try the micofiber, warm water and non abrasive soap and if it does not work I will break out the Makita cordless drill with the grinding wheel. If I can't produce enough heat I have the dremel for a backup.

I just use my sunglass cleaning cloth. I keep it in the sunglass compartment. The key is to wipe it down often so the dust doesn't build up too much.
