There’s an option for one inch shorter which I swear I ordered and just thought that’s what I had. I’m curious to know what someone’s rod end measures that’s 100% sure it’s the short one.

Yep, I was talking ground clearance off the axle housing.

Here’s a picture showing the difference between a 2” standard rod end from King and a 1” welded rod end from ADS. Same 14” stroke and body length.

Your eyelet is 2.95 top edge to center. That's typically standard for an off the shelf Fox shock cause it gives a little clearance for mounting (hitting all the funny terms). You can get one that's 1.95 top to center, i made the switch myself on mine.

For the record it is not a worthwhile switch on a 12in shock unless you're sending it in for rebuild, have the capabilities to take shocks apart yourself, know a guy that does. Plenty of room to move the axle mount around. On a 14in shock it is much more worth it since there isn't as much space to fit the shock without the axle mounts hanging super low. Still not something you wanna do if you can just order them with the shorter eyelet to start with.

Reason being is the eyelets are held on with red loctite and need to be heated to be removed. Takes a fair amount of heat and it takes little while to get it hot enough to melt the loctite without going nuts and melting the eyelet. Not worth it to mess with with the shock assembled and risk ruining your seals and shock oil, remove the bearings, buy shaft vice clamp jaws. Especially if they're charged then it's straight up dangerous.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize it was that involved to swap out. I guess this was in fact the easier way haha

Either way it’s done now. No ground clearance lost, gained some bump and didn’t lose any down travel.

Its exactly a 1" difference, with 12" shocks, you are ok with the 1" longer rod end, don't change it. I think 20.44 collapsed short, 21.44 collapsed long.

The crazy market right now has caused Fox to stop allowing custom orders, so only a dealer can swap to shorter rod end and that means extra cost and time.

On 14", it might be a problem and start limiting bump travel, see post #1 diagram for compatible collapsed lengths

I'm installing the shock relocation kit and plan to run 2.5 x 12" shocks. Wheels are 17x9, 4.75 backspace, and -6mm offset. Can I get by with 1.25" spacers or do I need the 1.5"? Searched the thread but didn't find an answer.

I think 1.25" should be ok with 285s and smooth body. With 315s, jump to 1.5-2" with those wheels

I have 12” triple bypasses, icon rxt leaf pack (opt 1) with 315/75/16.. 4.5 in backspacing zero offset. I use a 1.25” spacer… no rubbing got a ~1/2 in at full bump from tire to shock body after cycling the suspension. You will be cutting it close with that 4.75 BS on a 35s. 33s you should be fine with a 1.25 spacers.

I had 2” spacers and had plenty of room up there, but didn’t like that much poke.

If you want 2” spacers I have a pair of Bora for sale.. if you are interested.

I'll be installing the RXT leaf pack at option 1 and have 33s. Thanks for the info, it aligns with what Archive had confirmed as well - 1.25" should work fine. I ended up picking up some 1.25" spacers from a TW member, but thank you for the offer!

I have the same shocks, ADS 2.5x13 but the shock compressed/extended dimensions I got from ADS differ from what's stated above. Since I have the shocks sitting in my garage waiting to be installed, I went out and measured them. As they sit in the box it is 33.25" center of eyelet to center of eyelet. Am I correct to assume this is the fully extended length, and that the fully compressed length would be 13" less, or 20.25"? If so then it seems the axle mount angle per the diagram on Post 1 would be very similar to a 12" shock at 0 degrees, correct?

Yes correct. But it depends on the rest of your rear setup to like how thick leaf pack is and whether you have tall or short bumpstops

I've got Deaver U402 Stage 1, Archive ubolt flip/Option 3, Archive hammer hangers and 3.6" shackles. Everything is installed except the shock relocation tower and smoothies.

I apologize if I missed it in here. But has anyone found a wheel/tire combo that works with 2.5s without running any spacers. Possibly with skinny 33s? I’m not sure what the wheel dimensions would need to be.

Basically need 3.5" backspacing to fit up to 285 wide without a wheel spacer

Would that be roughly the same for a 255 or could you increase to 4-4.5 backspace?

If you've seen my pics. I run FJ/4Runner trail wheels with 255/85R17s and 1.25" spacers and while at ride height. Clear easily. At full stuff, get just the slightest bit of rub on the shocks. Running 2.5 Radflo's.
