What's the best year of Tacoma?

Best is subjective of course. Older is more simple. Less stuff to break. Newer is more comfortable. There are tradeoffs.

Just curious what everyone personally thinks is the best model year in terms of the tradeoffs. Posting it on the gen 2 page because I personally think that might be the sweet spot, but whatever your answer is I'd love to hear it.

Had a little time to work out any new model issues (2016) and best of all no fussy radar cruise control.
5 speed manual available with 4 cylinder this year too.

 

2010, all the electronic conveniences, none of the secondary injection crap.

 

Probably 2013-2015.

But in terms of simplicity, the 1st Gen with manual hubs and transfer case.

 

I prefer older because they have been driven for years and people have had time to learn the typical flaws. Things were just made better and more reliable “back in the day”

 

2014 - 2015, with preference on the 15. Last year of the 1GR-FE, least amount of issues and recalls.

 

The one you own.

 

Your “back in the day” must not be as far back as mine lol. 60’s and 70’s cars that got over 100,000 miles before the engine was shot were rare. The Pintos and Vegas typically lasted 80k miles for a good one. They were far easier to repair and the engine compartments were uncluttered, but then again we were replacing plugs as frequently as 12-15k miles intervals and making repairs frequently.

 

That's pretty easy. 2021 DCLB TRD OR, specifically Super White with Predator steps.

That's what I've heard from all the cool guys, anyway.

For 2nd gens I'm going to say 2014 TRD Offroad, decent features, minimal electronics for it's age, and still has a legit clock in the dash.
I wouldn't mind having a 2000-04 1st gen either.

 

Hey now, just because Ford Pintos blew up, killing a few people doesn't make them so bad. As a kid in the 60's, I remember my Dad ordering one at our local dealer and I remember when it came in on the transport. It was in late 1969 and it was a '70 black Pinto "Runabout". My two older brother that were a year apart in high school then had to share it. It got some severe use in those days and eventually succumbed to my oldest brother's poor choices when he was in the up on a hill overlooking our home town with his girl friend. You might say he got caught with his pants down (literally) when one of them popped it into neutral and the eBrake wasn't on. They rolled down a steep hill into the avocado orchard and drilled a big ol' tree. Oh dear me, I remember that phone call home to my Dad. That was his SECOND smash up in that car and that was the end of it.

I spent most of my high school years as a passenger in a deep-orange runabout that was my best buddy's. We called it the Pintera deTomato. It never blew up.

 

Well, was it worth it.
Did he end up marrying her and they are still together to this day.

Statistics say, it’s highly unlikely.
And probably wasn’t worth it.
Yet, the trend seems to be stable.

hahaha I truly enjoyed that story! I grew up with a junk yard for a back lawn until I was about 9 or 10 I remember a few of the old vehicles dad had in the half acre of a yard, one being a yellow station wagon that is kids always hung out in and the other was the old boxy grey dodge truck prolly cuz I shut my fingers in the door of that stupid truck so many times. Good memories either way

 

We had a used 1974 or 75 2.8L V6 Pinto in the family. Got my learners license on it in the mid 80’s. Did stupid shit with it back then too. Somehow managed to ahhhem get to 3rd base in the tiny back seat somehow as well but remained in control of the car. Parked in a city park at night, Cops showed up to a fogged up Pinto. He just made sure we were okay and sent us on our way. Also buddies would always like to pull the eBrake while driving when you weren’t prepared. Was totally oblivious to the dangers that little car presented back then. But hey, I got lucky and I didn’t die.

It was this colour but a little more beat-up.

 

2015. Last year of the second gen. 4.0 1GR-FE engine that will last forever, solid trans, good oil filter location.
