    It's also cali... lol.

I'd go into shops to "test" and then finalize my purchase online having it shipped to an FFL. But every now and then, you get lucky ;)

unless it's ammo. Give up all hope then and just buy in bulk online, lol ;)
(one place in town where I live is actually really good with bulk prices)

That is also a 1911 style. A couple safeties in place there.

Firearms are like shoes. The shoes I’m wearing, probably won’t fit your feet. I have a pair of shoes for work, a pair for the gym, a pair for yard work, a pair for hiking, a pair for church, some house shoes, etc, etc.

As mentioned above, by Sig45, go handle various firearms. Go to a range that has rentals. Talk to your friends that are gun owners. Ask them to go to the range with you and shoot theirs. Always offer to pay their range fees and pay for the ammunition.

There are a lot of quality, well made firearms available to the consumer today. Just because a firearm fits my hands, my needs and my particular set of circumstances, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right for you. We are all individuals with different sizes of hands, different body’s, different needs and different wants. Some of us have physical disabilities or conditions that have to be taken in to consideration.

I wish I could tell you to go buy brand ABC it’s perfect and you will like it. Unfortunately, if I said that it wouldn’t be truthful. There is no doubt in my mind that there is something out there for you. You just have to find it. It won’t take you very long to figure it out. Have fun and happy shooting!

Hope OP isn't left handed either. I'm a lefty and that limits some of my choices. Those little Micro 9's (love 'em, have one) are not left handed friendly until you put an ambi-safety on them.

Mag releases can be another issue if you're not used to using your left hand on them.

Yes, still has a reinforced trigger guard area. No booger finger can enter.

@ OP, can I ask why you are swapping from a revolver to a different style? There is nothing wrong with revolvers man. Especially if it's familiar to you. Will this be a first time conceal carry? Or just want to explore different options here? Carry capacity isn't always the biggest deal. For example, I carry a secondary mag because in the event of failure, first thing I'm going to do is drop the mag and then clear and replace with a new mag. Reason being, mags are responsible for most of the issues and it's quicker to swap it out in a DGU than try to retain it while you clear a malfunction, and if the malfunction is mag related, well, you just put a bad mag back in the gun. Probably getting into the .0001%'s here and the what if's, but if it aint broke, don't fix it ;) If anything, that revolver is a great choice for on body carry, and I'd keep something with more capacity in the truck or in a bag (if you are capable of doing so - safely). My step dad tried to make the jump to a double stack 9mm and ended up hating it. Just everything about it was a new learning curve for him. In the end, it was just easier to keep doing what he was already doing (plus the arthritis issue made it very hard for him).

I almost never carry, but 9/10 times if I do, I have a little S&W 642 with me in a pocket holster. I have never felt under-gunned, and if anything ever goes down I'm running the f in the other direction anyways.

I'm a big fan of hammerless revolvers. Point and click.

J frame is a great option if you're comfortable with revolvers and not completely new to shooting

They're not fun at the range and not instagram cool...but they're easy to carry and will do fine in most situations that may require defensive use

Probably on roster too in Cali

Wow, the response to my question has been unbelievably awesome. I’ve been around guns all my life, from hunting, hunter safety instructor, short time as a LEO, etc etc. I’m a revolver guy but own a few autos. I’m most comfortable with a wheel gun and quite accurate in various types of shooting with revolvers. I wanted input on some autos because I was considering a gun with higher capacity for concealed carry. Over the weekend I checked out several autos and shot a few. After that I’ve decided to stick with revolvers. I’m comfortable with them, I’m accurate with them and they just feel good in my hands.

My two favorite carry revolvers are my little S&W 38 special J frame and a Ruger 357 mag. speed six. I have other revolvers but they aren’t as suited for carry. I always carry a couple speed loaders too.

TW people are the best. I want to thank you all for your thoughtful responses. A lot of great information and I learned a lot.
    Thank you all!

Yup. G43x and G48 would cost you even more. The anti gun leadership here has created a gray market for off-roster pistols. And since they passed a silly law that says microstamping is required on new models, no new semi auto pistols will ever make the roster again. So we are stuck with grandfathered options. And if a manufacturer decides they no longer want to participate in California's ransom program, then that leaves even fewer options on the market. Since I bought my first pistol here, Colt 1911's, Smith & Wesson M&P, Ruger and many others have dropped their auto pistols from the roster. Auto pistols that typically run $400 - $700 in most states will command premiums 2x - 3x second hand what it would cost in most other states. For example, an HK VP9 will set you back $1,500+ if you're not Law Enforcement in CA. The more newer the model, the more a seller can upcharge. Gen 4 Glocks are running anywhere between $650 - $850 while Gen 5 Glocks will cost around $1,300+. Ridiculous. I know.

Ruger LC9S with hidden hybrid holster. That’s just my choice. You really need to shoot a variety of guns at a range and see what works best for you. All of the guns mentioned in this thread are great firearms. Good luck with your decision.

They aren’t suited for concealed carry because they are too large. A couple of my other revolvers include Taurus Tracker 44 mag., Ruger Red Hawk 44 mag. , a Colt Python etc. Etc.
