I used to grab the top of the bed and put a foot on a tire and lift up and step over the bed side. About a year ago, medical issues didnt allow me to do this anymore, I'd done it for years on all my trucks. I thought it was dumb and ugly until my situation came up. Bought one off Craigslist like new for 125, use the hell out of it. I do wish it tucked up closer to the underside more though.

I love mine. With the tailgate down, I would have to use the (TRD) wheel as a step to get into the bed.

Does anyone know if I could use a 2nd gen Tacoma bed step and install it without any issues to a 3rd gen Tacoma ‘17?

Used mine in Pismo. Loading and unloading cargo from the back was a breeze.

I had an AMP step on my 2012 Tundra for 8 years. I live by the sea and had to lube the pivots on occasion to keep it working. Did have to clean up the frame and hit it with Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer (even though I think it's aluminum) and refinished it with some spray can truck bed liner.

Just in case folks lost track of this thread, wanted to mention I finally installed one of these nifty bed steps a few weeks ago. Wow… wish I had done it a few years ago. Nice addition. Maybe not for you but works for me. I installed the Toyota branded version.

So did I. And it's crooked. I got the AMP one. The bracket was a PITA. Had to hammer bolts through. This summer I will mess with it and drill if I have to so I can adjust it, but they messed the milling up seriously bad. Doesn't seem common though, according to reviews. Still, I wish I would have gone with the OEM one.

Overall though, because of it's usefulness, I can totally tolerate the crookedness for now. Mainly because it's too much of a PITA to remove and send back. I was going to do it today but I ran out of day light and everything is frozen, including my decaying bones. I personally need steps... it's not really an option.

I actually never looked or compared the different models, OEM vs AMP.

Everyone I have talked to said the OEM one was great. Of course, it was after I bought the AMP one... lol.

I dunno man, at this point, every truck needs that GMC option where a nice handicapable ladder or ramp drops out of the tailgate lol.

When you got old stiff knees, your desire for "symmetry" goes right out the fucking window! Count me as one who loves their OEM bed step! It's one of the first things I added to my truck when I bought it and I use the thing all the time. And install was a piece of cake!

Thankfully I can still step on the down tailgate with no assistance.

Just bought the Toyota branded bed step from the dealer last week for about the same price as Amazon and decided to put it on this weekend. I put the two main pieces together and one of the two screws didn't continue tightening, and seems it was just spinning. The other screw was tight (33 ft/lbs), so I thought I could still give it a go and try and mount it on the truck. Then I looked at the other two holes that are supposed to mount to the truck and realized the holes weren't even drilled all the way through!:facepalm:I triple checked to make sure I wasn't just missing something, but yep sure enough the part was defective. I took it back to the dealer and exchanged it for another. They opened up the other box and checked the same part, the new one had the holes punched out correctly and the first one they had given me had them only carved half way through. The dealer gave me a whole new set which I'm now in the process of installing. So far I've put the two main pieces together again and was able to screw both bolts to the 33 ft/lbs spec without issue, had to pick up a 3" table vice to make the process easier. Will be actually putting it on the truck later this week.

Yea, that's why I should have gone OEM. I contacted AMP a while ago and still have not heard anything from them. I'm just gonna drill it myself and fix it. But, glad I'm not the only one that had an issue.

My wife is 4’11”. It’s on the accessory page for whenever we pick up whichever truck comes in. Symmetry loses over not being able to get in the bed.

When you go to mount on truck, try starting bottom bolt first by hand and make sure you get good bite on threads. I was able to get several turns on this before starting top bolt. Not a lot of room but doable. Once both started, was able to get socket with extension up in there. Once tight then used torque ratchet. Search on Internet and there is a video to watch if needed.

Went with the OEM. One of the best mods I have made.
