So I dropped my truck off at seven a am to get my waterpump replaced undermy extended warrenty. They told me not to worry it will be done at noon to one. Well at three I have not heard anything so I call and the tell me the ups truck was late because the snow and they were starting as we were talking on the phone. He says its a two hour job and the close at six so there was plenty of time to finish. So Im at the dealer now and the truck is done but I can't take it home because the warrenty company has not paid yet so I can't take it! What the he'll. This is bull. Now I have to sit here and wait for a ride cause they don't even have anyone that can take me home!

    Ok my rant is over

Is your extended warranty from Toyota or another company? Just wondering.

Hmmm thats weird. I thought Toyota had a 5 year warranty for engine stuff. I took my 2006 in a couple months ago to get the timing cover TSB fixed and while they were fixing it, they noticed my water pump was leaking a little bit so they swapped it out for a new one. Everything was under warranty so I didnt pay for nothing.

I can understand everything except the warranty issue.

That sounds like BS. You should raise some hell over that.

Ya I no. The service writer called the warrenty company to see if they could rush the payment so I could take the truck tonight and they said they don't rush anything its first come first serve. So its more the warrenty company than the dealer I guess

Sucks about the timing, but I guess you should be glad that you still have a warranty, extended or not! That's five greenbacks still sittin in your back pocket as you sit there waiting for a ride.

Hope you get your Taco back ASAP.

Well, as a service writer myself, I won't start a job until I actually talk to the warranty company. So, if it takes all day, then it's on them. Once they are contacted, they may give a credit card # over the phone, or they may have an account to be charged if they are used at that dealer enough times. With an aftermarket warranty, keep in mind, the dealer is NOT obligated to take them- if the warranty company pays by check, our dealership does not take pmt from them- the policy is no payment, no car- so you may have to pay and get reimbursed by the warranty company directly. Fidelity pays immediately over the phone or via fax documents, so they're usually accepted everywhere. Most dealers will sell aftermarket warranties- usually more profit in them. Some of the companies may even cover more than Factory ones, but I've seen some that are.... suspect.

Correct. So I am out of the factory 5/60. Warrenty. But I purchased a 7/100000 warranty when I bought the truck. I thought it was a factory warrenty but I was young and just signed the papers. So in reality it was the fidelity warrenty. Somy dealer got the approval to do the work but they are waiting for the payment via fax. So who is really to blame. The warrenty company. Can't really blame the service department for not letting there work go without payment. What do you think hogey

That stinks. I think the dealer holds 50% of the blame here even if its a 3rd party warranty- because the dealer sold it to you and profited from the sale. I could understand their position if you had purchased it on your own, from someone other than the dealer.

I would think the dealer would work with you. They can work payment through the warranty company and let you on your way and not hold your truck hostage. I would think the dealer would be assured of payment and woulf of worked out those details before working on your truck. Are they afraid the warranty company is going to deny the claim after they fixed the truck? The dealer can defintely cut you some slack.

I think this logic is a little flawed. The warranty company is the one to blame. They provide the service.

If this was a standard occurance and people complained to the dealer about it- The dealer should probably think about not selling those warranties any more but it sounds like they are usually pretty good about it.

Boo on Fidilety for screwing this up...

Most secondary warranty companies can pay claims over the phone via credit card. Again, normally the dealer will ge pre authorization for coverage on the work from the company before starting. Again I think the dealership can work with the OP as well.
