    I had -15.8 here.

It's a 2008 John Deere x500 with the 44" snowblower attachment, rear chains, and four 42-lb suitcase weights hanging off the frame.

I bought the tractor used last year and got the snowblower new this week. I was shooting for a used one, but they need some lifting components that can stay on the tractor year round, so I was afraid I'd get it home and not have enough parts to get it installed. Buying some of the brackets and such separately is expensive.

I have been looking at mowers recently. I currently run a 32” Bradley commercial type walk behind but the ticker doesn’t like that when it’s hot out. Debating on a zero turn or tractor for my 1/3 acre yard . My neighbor has my mid 90s Cub as a borrow and store but that thing is more than beat. Something that’ll take care of both summer and winter is nice. What’s the length of that set up?

Pretty much exactly 9 ft from the front of the blower to the back of the rear weights.

I kept dealing with few hundred dollar Craftsman tractors that I'd buy used and be constantly working on. A spindle went in my last one this past spring and I decided I was done messing around with low end consumer equipment.

I only have about 1/2 acre of lawn, but there are a lot of slopes so I wanted something with diff lock. The cheapest new models with that feature are Husqvarnas - I saw one I liked for around $3k, it was somewhere between a lawn tractor and garden tractor in size and capability. I checked to see if I could get a used garden tractor for the same money and picked this up for about $2800. The local John Deere dealer took it in on trade and had it listed for $3k. It was in great shape other than the seat and some minor cosmetic body stuff so I haggled them down slightly and bought a new seat with what I saved.

It has a much beefier transaxle, mechanical differential lock, a commercial grade Kawasaki engine, and is just bigger and tougher in every way than a new machine in my price range. I figure if I maintain it well, it'll last me a long time and you can get Deere parts basically forever.

I have a lawn tractor on my to-buy list, but I’m saving up for a shed first. I figure a cheapie 8 x 10 plastic setup (Lifetime or Suncast) will work nice for my uses. I’m not sure my house is the forever house, so forking out a few thousand for a good shed is kinda pointless and with the price of wood I’m not saving a ton by DIYing it.

I had a Sabre 38” tractor that came with the house that for whatever reason caused dust storms when I’d mow and I sold it in a fit of rage one year. I have a decent Honda self-propelled, but with the rate of growth on my lawn the past few years if I wasn’t careful it would take 2.5-3 hours to do by hand. One years where the growth would die out I could do it in like 45minutes to an hour.

I don’t need a contractor grade unit, but I don’t want junk either. My Mom has had a low end JD that outside of a bad head gasket has been pretty flawless for the past 11 years. I don’t know where I’ll end up, but I figure I’ll build a shed this spring and go from there.

Hmmm lemme check, my shed was pretty cheap (wood). I did have to widen the door though.

@tcBob anyone else having trouble with the site? When I try to quote anyone it is scrambling some of my words and adding a ton of lines that I cannot remove.

20220117_145212.jpg 20220117_125824.jpg As a good parent, I roused my giblets and wife at 5am to drive through the rain/ slush here and snow in NH/ VT to chase powder and it was fantastic. Took the wife's t4r cause we just put toyo at3's on it about 2 months ago. Damn they are good in the snow. Like real good. It still took ~4 hours vs 2.5 to get up to Magic Mtn but those tires are great.

Also, the snow was pretty dope. Magic got like 8-12" of powder which was pretty glorious. And I haven't been there in almost 30 years, and it was everything old school and not crowded that I remembered.

Trying something new out and wondering if any of you have done something similar. I have quite a bit of Carhartt outer wear but they're not exactly waterproof. I'm going to wax the Carhartt canvas to see if I can make it more durable and water resistant. Any of you guys ever done this? I'm going to start with my bibs since they see the most abuse, then move on to the jackets. I have one that's still pretty nice that I actually wear to work so I'm saving that for last, if I do it at all to that one (might wait until it gets more worn in before waxing it). I bought Otter wax dressing online and will be tackling the job in the next few weeks.

I did a jacket with SnoSeal a couple of years ago. I spread it on and warmed it up with a hair dryer, it's holding up well but has not been washed or anything since I applied it.

I've done it on jackets and it works well depending on what stains you may have. Some chemicals won't allow the wax to soak in.
You probably won't have that issue,,,I work with nasty stuff.

From what I've gathered, you can't really 'wash' them afterwards. If you do, cold water only as hot water will just take the wax out of the fibers. I plan to do this to coats that wouldn't be washed but would only see the occassional tire brush for cleaning. My bibs fit that bill perfectly.

Good to know. One jacket is in good shape, so shouldn't be an issue. The bibs have chain saw bar oil on them, as well as pine tar, motor oil and 2 stroke mix on them. They're in good shape, but they're definitely work pants.
