Is this brake force normal? (Won't engage ABS)

Just got my truck a week ago so I'm still getting used to it. I noticed today that (on a wet road), going 40+ mph, if I STOMP the brake pedal, it will slow the truck decently as the pedal travels to the floor (not like a failing traveling to the floor abruptly, I'm just saying I have it to the floor), however there is no ABS action or even the slightest hint of lockup.

Now, I did just replace my tires yesterday with fresh rubber, so I assume that has a lot to do with it. The tires are doing their job and preventing slipping/locking, which is awesome. However, I'm still skeptical that the brake system can't overpower them at full brake force and induce some ABS, especially on the damp roadways.

Like I said, I just got the truck (04 ext cab) so I don't really know what to expect. I'm also coming from daily driving a 3 series that will about break your collar bone from braking force if you jam the super sensitive massive brakes, so I realize it isn't really apples to apples.

Just trying to get a sense of whether this is "normal" or if something seems off with the braking force.

 

Does it actually go to the floor? That definitely isn't right. How hard does the truck stop when you're pushing the brake pedal? My truck's brakes certainly don't feel like the brakes on my M3, but they're capable of locking/engaging the ABS. How's your brake booster? Does the engine idle change when you push the brake pedal?

 

Well, when I say it's on the floor I mean it's there because I'm stomping on it. Not because it's floppy and no resistance in the pedal. Any car (our bmw's included) will, of course, let you put the brake pedal to the floor, if you press hard enough.

So, I'm really talking about the lack of had stopping or "authoritative" braking. I just out new pads on last night. Rotors looked good. Brake fluid is very clean and at the Max line (so I assume the dealer changed that fluid before I bought it), so given that, I haven't changed the fluid or bled the system myself. I also have not checked the drums yet, but I will on Saturday.

Oh. The booster seems fine. No squealing/squeaking and no change in idle when braking.

Just a little concerned...I'd think full force panic braking should, like you said yours does, induce some abs or lockup.

 

Well, in that case I'd try bleeding the brakes.
