spacer lift idea. opinions?

so im a dirt poor college student and i wanna lift my truck. i know installing a spacer lift on the front can cause over extension of shocks or bent shocks because of inhability to hit bump stops. would these two items combined help battle this issue?

I'm confused where does that all mount up? If it really does increase travel (which it won't) you still have over extension issues of alot of other parts. Save up and do it right

well the shock extender would keep the shock from over extending by making the shock attach at the bottom of the spacer instead of the top. the polyurathane bump stops would replace the oem rubber bump stops on the lower control arm to avoid bottoming out the shock. this is all just theory right now. not sure if wanna put all that money twoards to find out it doesnt really solve the issue. it might possibly work though.

 

I just ditched my spacer lift and what a world of a difference! I guess spacer lifts aren't all that bad if you don't wheel

 

For starters, you r front shocks do not attach in that manner. They are actually strut assemblies with the top spring seat attached directly to the strut. Even if it would work, you would be overextending the top of the strut assembly and hose extensions would likely snap off rather quickly.

alright well that pretty much settles it for me that this is a bad idea. how about some ome's will they work with stock front struts? more concerned with over extsion with the ome's on stock struts

 

Stop thinking about taking shortcuts with your truck. This is a bad idea, and if you get lift coils, you should be getting new shocks too.

If you're that dirt poor, you shouldn't be lifting your truck and putting lockers in it anyway.

 

well the way i see it if i can manage to put the right items in it ill then be able to make more money. . . i.e. cleaning up remote property, yanking stupid highscholl kids outta mud and so on and so forth.

 

You won't make money doing that shit unless you're a total dick who isn't willing to pull out some stuck cars/trucks out of the goodness in your heart. It sucks to not have money believe me. It took me 8 months to save up for my lift and there are still things I have to redo. Save your money

 

for people that just genuinely need help i help them for nothing. but up here where i live which by the way is one of the richest towns on the east coast alot of these little kids are freaking rolling in mommy and daddy's money. i see nothing wrong when some one is in much better standing than me and offers to throw me some cash to tug em out.(which gets offered quite often) relax i feel some built up tension here dood. im just a college kid willin to work for a few bucks here and there. im not the kinda guy who is gonna just drive by some one on a trail who is buried without at least offering to help (for nothing) cause i have had some random people do that for me.

 

No tension here man, I'm just having trouble seeing how all of this will work out. I live in an area where people don't do incredibly dumb shit with their parents cars so I don't know how that works out over there. If you have been offered some money to pull out cars and trucks I would look around, do more of that and use that money to save up for some bilstein 5100s and an aal. The nice thing about that set up is that later down the road you can upgrade to new springs and reset the bilsteins to 0" of lift. Your truck will be fine in stock configuration for pulling out the occasional stuck car or truck. That sounds like a pretty good area to be in if you want small jobs an what not as well

 

im either thinking about doing that or just saving for like the few months and see if i can just pick up a complete ome lift kit in one shot.

i know it seem odd that so many people would be that dumb around here but here is a funny statistic in the paper about a week ago that alpharetta has some of the highest drug traffic in the southeast. prolly cause everyone has alot of money and nothing to do around here.

dam where did you get and what set up/parts did you pick out???

 

that one. do it right the first time. so many people on here don't listen and get spacers or something cheap. eventually they end up having to redo it the right way or get used to the shitty ride. so save yourself a few hundred bucks by waiting and saving what you can until you can afford a real lift, not a couple of pieces of metal that push your truck up higher.

 

the ride wouldn't bother me its just fear of bending the piss out of my front struts that i was more concerned about. ride wouldn't matter but breaking shit does

 

that's what i said too. but trust me, after a few months of driving on it, you will get sick of bracing yourself for impact every time you get near a pot hole or drop off. i got spacers before i knew about tacomaworld. i wish i had become a member sooner so i could have had someone tell me not to get them.
