Finally in a position that I can purchase a new taco. I'm looking at a TRD OR, short bed, manual tranny, tech package, and few smaller options. I just called the dealership and they are now marking up trucks by 2k, even vehicles that have not yet been ordered! This makes no sense to me. Sure...if they have new inventory on their lot, I'd expect to pay a markup but ordering 4 to 6 months out?? For those that have purchased a Taco recently, did you pay over MSRP? Thanks guys.

You are in a market where there are more buyers than cars. Parts are limited and materials crucial for the building of Toyota's are limited. The dealership has the upper hand of chalking up the price and someone will pay for it. You have less negotiation power here. The dealership markups vary mine was 5k if you didn’t live in the city and 2.5k if you did. I got them to knock it off entirely and take off their $1000 elo gps tracking system. They gave me the truck with the gps tracking system in the car and they just snipped half the wires.. keep in mind I ordered the truck from them while it was in alocation so they put the gps tracker in and cut the wires, already knowing it was going to not be used. o_O:confused::rofl:

I called a dealership a bit further away. No markup! Thankfully, it only took one call!

Wait and find out if they have addons. Wouldn't be surprised such as vin etching, gps for stolen vehicles in case… and other things.

From my brief conversation, he made it sound like there would be no add-ons but you're right, I should definitely get an official OTD estimate.

I did my negotiations for my truck all over the phone and text. Never stepped foot in the door until i signed papers. Easier for me personally. They didn't hold my card for credit check and license ect and i didn't waste my time there while haggling a price. But it seems like your truck may be a but more specific for what you are looking for.

I bought mine in march last year, and I paid MSRP plus taxes. I visited about a dozen different dealership over a couple of months looking for a good deal on a truck. Pretty much every single one of them tried to either bait and switch me, and/or tried adding all kinds of charges to the advertised price. A couple of them advertised a used certified truck for a certain price, then added a "certification fee" over the advertised price. I wasted no time discussing terms with these people. If they didn't budge right after I brought up the legitimacy/validity of the extra charges, I thanked them for their time, and walked out. One dealer though, gave me a price of just MSRP plus taxes. He was quick and to the point. He told me that trucks were in high demand, and the manager would not approve any discounts on new trucks, even if I was paying cash. I also walked out of that one, because I thought I he was full of it. He wasn't lying, though. MSRP plus just taxes was the best deal I could find on a new Tacoma, so I came back, and left with a brand new truck.

Dealers' mind-set: If you want one you WILL pay!

No markup last March when I put a deposit down to lock in the deal, but paid MSRP and there was no wiggle room. They insisted no wiggle room, and I'm OK believing it. I had spent the previous few weeks watching inventories decline and seeing supply chain stuff continue to get worse. I love my truck and might have gotten a better deal if I was a savvier shopper, but I. Got. It.

I did get taken on the extended warranty package, but I am chalking that up to the "stupid tax." If all goes well, this will be the last vehicle I buy. It is, after all, a Toyota and I get 300K+ miles and 20+ years out of them. Not going to quibble over a couple grand.

Local dealer here had a 5k market adjustment on a Rav4 PLUS another 3 in "convenience add-ons." On a middle trimmed, nothing special, Rav4. Walked.

We paid MSRP from a dealership that was about a hundred miles away but saved the 5,000$ markup the local dealer wanted.
I searched the Internet to find the best deal.

Oh, jeez... I don't know why I assumed you were near Chicago. I think I got confused with another thread. My bad.
