Well it's no longer a virgin, caught a large object tossed up in the window on the highway. It caused a large bang and even knock a chip out on the inside. Now I'm getting it replaced. The shop is claiming they can reset the camera and the insurance company said it should be rechecked to confirm its working properly. Does this make sense?

Had mine replaced last year. The shop insisted they had no choice in calibration--it had to be done. Insurance paid the bill, so I didn't care. Has worked fine.

I had mine replaced last year without getting the camera recalibrated. Everything still works fine.

Glass company should handle everything. Only go to one that will. It's your call not insurance companies.

I'm about to have the windshield replaced on my 22. I'm wondering the same about re-calibration...to recal, or not...Insurance is footing the bill, but I'd rather not have CPU issues down the road.

Had mine replaced and the camera 'recalibrated' (not even sure what the hell that means) by Safelite (not a sponsor). No issues.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Had the windshield replace on my previously own 2nd gen by SafeLite - no issues. It was OEM BTW and insurance covered it 100%
    Would use them again.

Had two replacements on my 17 already, the last one they missed a spot sealing it and had some leaks inside down the inner fender. They fixed it all up now.

Had a local shop use Pilkinton glass. $365 installed. Had my PCS/TSS light come on. Supposedly it'd reset after a few minutes. It didn't. Long story short, glass guy never plugged it back in. Haven't had an issue since.

I've had two windshield replacements both with cheap glass (probably Fuyao?) and never had to have any calibration done and haven't had any issues with any lights/warnings come on.

I've had mine replaced 2x already with OEM. If it happens again I'm going to try aftermarket windshield. I think the OEM one does not take the hits so well.

    None.
SafeLite botched my windshield replacement six times. Water leaks. Wind leaks. Broke the windshield itself when removing it to repair an air leak. Broke the windshield trim. Arrived on the job without the parts necessary to complete the job. Necessary parts shipped to the wrong (distant) store. Dirty fingerprints on the A-pillar interior. Finally got it right on repair attempt #7.

I promised them I would share this experience every time somebody asked for recommendation.

For all the mistakes and unnecessary trips, they offered me a $100 gift card. Not enough for what they put me through.

This is what I fear the most, in my area I've heard this a couple times. I just don't want leaks and thanks for all the other positive comments.

I have had good experience with glass replacement over the years on all sorts of cars. My recommendation is to drop the car off at the shop vs. mobile and request the 'master installer'. Most shops have one. I have had mobile work done successfully before but it makes sense to me the installer is more comfortable in a shop with tools at hand than in a strangers driveway. I have seen some distortion on no-name brand glass but always on point with OEM suppliers.

I was mildly flamed in a previous post for saying this, but I do like to clean the car in and out before bringing it in, sending the message I care and also making it easy for damage and spots to stand out after the work is complete. A clean car dropped off+ experienced installer in the shop+ OEM glass has worked for me.

I had my 17 windshield replaced after just 6 months of owning the truck and I had zero issues with it since....with the exception of having a nice new chip in it again. The windshield wasn't an oem but an oem spec. My insurance covered the replacement.

Shop could not do the calibration the same day of the install. Needless to say mine is not calibrated and I have had no issues.
