Hah! I tried that solo and I’m 6’4”. The self vision of that and the cramps I was getting, lead me to give up the amateur truck-porn pose and move on to ‘Moah tools please’.

I got it in, with spacers, handles retained :headbang: Goatfrog's method did it for me, thanks man. As mentioned by others it was about 50lbs of leg force to get it to bow enough to all line up. I placed the spacer over the jack nut first, and then held it there firmly as I adjusted the force of my leg to flex the rack so that it aligned correctly over the spacer. With everything aligned the bolt threaded in very easily. I bolted in the side of the handle that doesn't have the spring first, since the whole circus act was hard enough without fighting that as well. After that, bolt #4 went in without the leg press.

I was pretty twisted up under my dash when I installed my brake controller last week, but I think this one takes the cake. The thing looks absolutely badass though, I'll share pics when I have daylight again and have some goods mounted on.

Did you take a video? For science of course. Lol.

Welp, I managed to hulk smash the two extra jack nuts then installed the last two I had towards the front as opposed to the rear (and yes, I watched the video that was very helpful and still messed it up). Sometimes beer is best after an install

I ordered the jack nuts meso linked earlier and got expedited shipping so it was a tad pricey but whatevs. I figure I should pay for my mistake rather than utilizing stews badass customer service. If anyone needs any extra after I finish the install (likely Tuesday) shoot me a pm.

I am planning on spray painting my bolts matte black, but anyone have the specs to the bolts used so I can get black ones if they don’t come out great?

These are the bolt sizes for the sunroof model. Not sure which you have:thumbsup:

They are not as black as I hoped but they definitely don’t stand out like the stainless steel

Alas, no video but it was all hot and sweaty! (only because I smartly decided to do the install on a June day in Texas, in a garage with no ac )

I saw that I’ll have to take off the rack to get the 3rd brake light service done so we will see if she can be persuaded to do her acrobatics again

Once the rack is installed can you still see the cutouts in the headliner or is there something that covers them? This is all that’s holding me up from buying one.

Totally clean install. No gaps at all.

    <eta>
I thought it was totally clean…. There’s a wee tiny bit of exposure but you have to go poking around to see it.

Does third brake light TSB require interior access? I thought they just added a new seal on the outside?

It looks like you are correct, as long as no signs of a leak is found they just do the fix from the outside without having to remove the headliner. I attached the technical instructions provided by Dilbert that was posted in this other thread

Scored a BNIB hex panel the other day. The install was not as bad as some seem to portray but it did have its moments. I had my wife with her boney girl arms on standby to hold up on end while fitting the screws as well as pushing upwards in the center when the last 2 screws went in. It was about a 20 minute install and now it's done. Just need to acquire some good bags, etc., and start attaching shit to it.

@reymataco Did you ever put the hex backing plates into any sort of production? If so, I'd love to buy several for whatever might come up for mounting needs. Where can I get ahold of those nice trinkets?

The CAD files are up on my google drive:

If you don't have access to a 3D printer, I will be happy to print and ship you set at cost. Each plate is $3 with the hardware (M6 bolt, nut, washer). Shipping for however many is about $10.

Thanks for the comeback. I am without print capabilities so if you're willing, I'd gladly take you up on the offer!

    I'll PM you the specifics.

Here are some pics from my setup. Third pic shows a couple different sized coat hooks using these plates to mount to the rack.

Looks phenomenal! How much weight you think they can hold, about 5-10lbs? And I don't have a 3d printer, would I be able to buy a set or two or three off you?

I haven't stress tested them, but they're rigid 75% infilled ABS. I would imagine 100 lbs per plate is not out of the question. Suffice to say, these should support a load beyond what anyone would want to mount on their interior ceiling rack. I'll print you as many as you like, shipping is $10. Plates are $3 each. PM me with the details for what you want, please.

Just watch the Meso video and use 2 people. It's much easier and the 2nd peep is needed for maybe 5 minutes if you have all your fittings at the ready. Like I said, my wife has the wimpy girl arms and she just held one end up while I positioned the first 2 fasteners on one side, the I had her slide in to the middle and push up while positioning the opposite side. Just get ALL the fitting started in the threads, no snugging, that way you can shift around to make it line up.
