That's good did they warranty it? i guess that's the kicker here. Most local shops are 1 year but I have seen some give you a loner duration. At least trying to help and see if you can get it replaced easily.

This is what I was thinking of. ECGS did my gears and gave a 5 year warranty on parts and labor

It's very possible it's just an axle. Pull those and you'll know. Since you didn't mention gear noise and it seemed to try and turn the d/s rear for a moment it's good chance that's all it is. If not, diff.

I've heard nothing but great things about him. Let us know what happens with either pulling the axle or gears and show us what happened!

I was thinking that tool When I grenaded the pumpkin last year that shit wouldn't move and was binding badly.

A broken shaft would allow the truck to roll so good call out there.

Ok since I was tagged here's the deal. You have an OR and 5.29s you grenaded the ring and pinion. I'd put money on it. Cryo and Rem is a total waste of money on these rears I haven't seen those treatments help any in helping make the gears last longer. You can do whatever you want to them. The cause of this issue especially in the OR is gear deflection which causes the teeth to skip thus stripping them and chewing teeth off. I've heard good things about Zuk althouth am unsure of his warranty as far as I've heard it's nothing like what ECGS offers which is 5 yrs no matter what up to 35" tires. Even if the gear manufacturers won't warranty it. This is a big reason why a lot of people go ECGS.

Here's what you need to do. Get it to Zuk ASAP and don't drive around with it like that. If you aren't close to him have it towed. But if you need to drive it you'll need to pull the ring gear off the differential/locker. That entails unbolting the axle sliding them out, taking the 3rd member out, unbolting the bearing caps and then unbolting the ring gear from the locker. This will allow you to drive around without the potential of the rear locking up or having more bits flying around potentially doing more damage.

I bent my housing and axle and grenaded my rear and front axle on a trip we did the above on the trail then I drove 7:30 hrs home in FWD.

I spoke with Zuk. He asked that first check for shavings or silver color in diff fluid. Which I did and found only clean fluid with no particles at all. He also asked me to check the axle shafts to see if splines are damaged. I'm in the process of doing this now although this is my first attempt at taking out the axles and will have to make sure I go about it correctly

Since everyone seems to video everything they do these days, do you happen to have a video or the incident?

Only time i blew rear diff gears i could still drive, it just had a whining noise.

No vid unfortunately. I wish i did. I had to self recover for a few miles up multiple steep climbs using the winch.

FYI I did not hear any sounds at all from the rear diff. But I do hear a subtle whining which I think might be the drive line?

I highly doubt you spun the splines on the axle shafts. I've never seen that but have seen and heard of 100s of gears grenading especially on the OR, no matter if the gears were treated or not. Chunks don't always come out when you grenade a diff mine didn't have any pretty shiny gear oil but there were chunks. There's plenty of video and picture evidence of the incident and trail repair.

You just need to take the drum off disconnect the emergency cable from the shoe arm, 2 10mm bolts on the backing plate for the shoes for the e-brake cable and it pulls out. Pinch off the brake hoses then unscrew them from the wheel cyl. There are 4 nuts IIRC 12mm to udo then slide the axles out easy peasy.

You'll know right away once you pull the axle shafts especially if you twisted the splines . Look closely at the splines , if twisted it is very noticeable and obvious

My bet is you stripped the ring gear !!!

The whining noise i had was a couple broken teeth from the ring gear and a little bit from the pinion gear.

Man you were lucky that's all it did. Mine was bad it clunked and tried to lock up every time it got to the messed up teeth.

Drain the rear diff yet at least? Youll know right away if you have some chunks. Sorry you had this happen, it definitely made me sick to my stomach when it happened. 900 bucks later it was fixed.
