Far Eastern side of Nebraska but 400 miles or a little more. I was thinking 8 hours drive, but don't remember.
Funny thing is, I can't tell them what a bad idea it is to take off on a trip that far with this truck. It's 22 years old, runs decent and transmission we replaced. Suspension is loose. Just stupid. It's a 200 mile round trip vehicle at best, in my opinion.

There was a older Harmon Kardon amp that went up for sale at one of my work internal auctions. I thought boy I'm gonna bid on that! I wasn't the only one had a idea what it was
Went waaaaay above what I was thinking.

I like learning, in fact I'm trying to move into machine repair to learn more on the mechanical side of machining. Currently I'm a glorified button pusher and it's super boring.

I like passing on knowledge as much as I can. Suppose that might be obvious for trying to help through 6.5's wonderful thread here.
What gets me is show a few guys a few things then supervision and management think they have several machinist now! The guys know better but management doesn't lol

You just never know something can fail 10 miles from home just as easy 500 miles away

The 500 miles the logistics just make it more difficult and expensive .

Yes, exactly. Getting home $$$ might as well junk it there.

Good stuff is hard to find. I’ve been super lucky. Gettin’ referrals from friends. The few complete strangers I’ve dealt with have been pretty much honest. Finally nearin’ the end of this journey.

That is why I loved doing What I did very seldom ever boring .

In school I was bored to death some teachers thought I was retarded Some took the time to find out I was bored and gave me problems I could relate to (69-71) I went from hating Algebra to thinking it was really great to solve real world mechanical problems Even to using Calculus in my Nuclear Physics class.

I remember Montgomery Ward, we always called it monkey wards. Everything from appliances-clothes-guns/ammo. Brendle’s was another just like it.

Neighbor growing up had a catalog kit house from Sears & Roebuck. The interior walls were only 1.5" thick.

    I don't remember a Brendle's but same, Monkey Wards:thumbsup:
I wonder if Brandies (spelling) they closed all stores I think, but I'm not sure if they didn't start in Nebraska? I'll Google it later.
It's about time for me to hit the hay, shop friends.

    I drive a Chevy

My dad and I had to go pick up my uncle and his Harley last summer. Left at 3pm on a Saturday and drove straight through to Forks Washington from Yreka ca. Put the Harley in a trailer and turned around and got home at noon on Sunday. It was 570 miles each way, only stopping for fuel where we would switch driving. Was a very long day.

That's how I was with Trade school too, the projects were boring, but let me make my own stuff and I was in the shop after hours cranking away. I even made my own hinged ring box to propose to my wife.

My girlfriend runs a CNC at a tool manufacturer they gave her a young guy to train last week 1st & only question was what time is lunch & break, he has no clue about anything turns out he is someone's nephew.
She shuts down & cleans the machine out to get ready for the next shift around 3:00 so this kid goes to the restroom a couple of minutes till 3 he was sure surprised when he got back & she was still running parts so he could get some more experience cleaning the machine:rofl:
They gave her a new kid to start training yesterday he walks in with a pen & note pad asking questions, taking notes & eager to learn & work she is really enjoying working with, him he is probably 1 in 10 at best.
