I need to get a second opinion. I'm working with a VSO to try to apply for disability benefits. Though last time I turned in some stuff to him he ghosted me. I have an intent to file for another couple months with the VA.

    Class of 2006 here woo
    College in 2010

finishing college in 4 was an accomplishment… lots of people I know went 5-7 for a 4 year degree. Or got 2 years in and never finished.

I took five years due to poor advising and course scheduling issues. It worked out, though; the delay let me take an eight-month co-op during my third year.

Then I took four years to finish a masters because I got burnt out and took a job at a coal mine...

I went to college originally to be an Engineer, knocked out a lot of gen eds, then got into calculus and due to various factors aka a terrible teacher, I failed out of calc 1 once, repeated it, then failed calc 2 and decided to enlist instead. Then I got broken, came back, worked a couple jobs and then went into trade school for 2 years. Now I'm considering using the IAMAW's free school benefit to get a degree in business management and use that knowledge to either propel me further up the pay scale or start this new endeavor.

I never went to college. Military right out of high school. Then worked some contract security and for the state until last year when I retired.

College isn't for everyone and it needs to not be pushed as a necessity. Were I to do things over again, I'd probably consider a different path

I definitely had a terrible advisor in the beginning..

buddy of mine tried to convince me to get a masters but I told him I could start working now and the extra time working would offset the little extra money from a masters.. now he’s pissed I’ve been making more than him the last like 5 years without a masters lmao

    ^ yup

it’s good if you know what you want to do (at least kind of) but far too many people go cuz that’s what everyone tells them to do and hope to figure it out along the way.

At least in tech they are finally starting to realize you really don’t need a degree..

    I went
    Undeclared engineering
    Computer engineering
    Pre business
    Management information systems

calculus was painful. Calc 2 I failed every exam (as did most of the class) and passed cuz I did the homework.

com sci I had a teacher decide to not teach starting 2 weeks before the midterm and my grade went from an A down to like a D+.. ended up getting it dropped from my transcript.. which then put me behind in credits so I wasn’t technically a senior til 2nd semester senior year. It was a disaster.

My masters was almost entirely a waste of time and money. It didn't get me any increase in pay or other merit at work. The only benefit was making contact with my current employer during the extra time spent at school.

Then again, college wasn't all that bad. Got both the YJ and my dog while there, plus a few hobbies.
