What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Looks good. Probably would have been good to keep the insulation or put new stuff in as well. Helps with the sun and keeping it cooler and retaining heat too when it's cold. But probably not a deal breaker.

 

Got the brakes done and drove to St George and back. down hill legally doing 80 is a nice way to get the brakes good and warmed up and settled in. I wasn't expecting such a difference but Damn these puppies STOP

Especially if there's a gas station.

 

The closed cell foam is suppose to be a really good thermal barrier. The insulation that was up there just fell apart.

I was going to say this was one of my biggest fears when I did mine. I kept my rear bumper bolted on to keep everything straight. Was also super worried about the frame warping when I boxed it up too.



I got back from VT, had a blast in the snow. Took my 3 season tent far beyond what it was rated for.

I would have kept some thing on when boxing for sure. For just some painting with absolutely nothing on it right now it should be okay. I wanted to blast the cross members in the blast cabinet rather than farting around with the roll on paint like I currently am for the rest of the frame haha.

95 headliner is massive pain in the ass. sound deadend mine many years back. made a great difference tho

 

yeah Im just going to cut mine out and put in a newer truck one.

 

what makes it so much more of a pita than a newer one?

 

It's glued on..all over the place. And wrapped up under the window seals. So you have to remove the window seals to totally get it out and melt the glue. I dont' even know how you get it off the front part, I just cut the last one off. And its vinyl, shit vinyl, so tears easy.

 

oh jeeze. Yea that sucks.
Some PO of my truck decided to glue a shitty aftermarket carpet on mine so I have to go about cleaning up all the glue when I get around to doing deadening on my interior.
Really not looking forward to it.
I can imagine doing that on the roof being a whole lotta fun....

 

Finally got a break in the weather to pressure wash frame. She's ready for her new rear end and springs now.

 

Does that new t case bracket flex at all or you think it will be good? I haven't seen someone set it up like that yet. Pretty good idea!

 

Did the 1st gen Toyota E-locker rear end ever come with the 4.30 gearset, or was that only on the open 8.4 rear?

 

I'm not sure about the Tacoma, but I believe the e-locked 3rd gen 4Runners came with 4.30s?

Yes sir, 4.30 on a locked 4Runner.

Non-locked were 4.10

 

I've seen mention of some 4.30 e-locker axles on other forums, but they seem to be rare. I think that would have been a special-order combo, as 4.30 gears were (as far as I know) only used in Tacomas with the 2.7L and e-lockers were mostly installed in 3.4L trucks.

You'll probably have better luck finding a 4.30 locked 3rd member from a 4Runner and swapping it into a Tacoma axle, or just welding new mounts onto the 4Runner axle.
