Not exactly, the Headlight DRL's get juice from the the DRL (Bright), then at TAIL/PARKING select they get juice from both but DRL has priority so they stay Bright. Once Low beams are selected the DRL circuit cuts off, leaving the TAIL/PARKING circuit juicing the DIM side. They stay DIM when High beams are flashed or ON and at Low beams.
If you want the MESO V5's to be Bright at LOW Beams, you need a fused ignition source juicing the Bright wire (red) and a tap to the high beams for DIM.

I want the v5’s drl to be dim when selecting low beam and bright when selecting high beam, I thought this was how it worked basically.

I’m happy to have these anyway and having the drl working, I just thought the dim and bright would be a bonus. :)

DRL's are meant to be a way to "see" the vehicle when no headlights are on.
Headlight DRL is bright before any headlight is ON. Once LOW BEAMS are ON they dim, the V5's were to be a parallel function as the headlight DRL's. But...

I just checked and you’re right, my model does not have the drl bright and dim function or at least it doesn’t work with the 2020 headlights. Thank you and caribe for your time and help.

2020 OEM LED's definitely do have that functionality. @daveeasa made me a PnP harness. I'm sure he could get you hooked up as well.

I think @mokeiko is confused and having difficulty understanding Caribe’s responses which explain in detail what is happening and what to expect.

OEM LED headlights are bright white C in DRL and Parking lights then dim C in low and high beams.

MESO v5 DRL’s are bright when the white wire is not 12v and the red wire is, dim when white is 12v and off when both are off.

To get a nonstandard behavior or bright DRL with high beams on would require a relay to disconnect the parking signal to the v5’s when high beams are selected.

More interestingly, from what I tested on the bench, MESO v5’s give priority to the white wire (dim) while OEM LED gives priority to the green wire (DRL). This makes sense given that many will be tying DRL to ignition for ease of installation and therefore need this behavior. It would be potentially slick if it could be configured somehow via jumper.

Caribe has suggested using the low beam for the white wire instead of parking lights to achieve the same behavior as the headlights. That’s a good plan but adds additional complexity harness-wise just to achieve a specific look when parking lights are on but low beams are off. I have warmed to the idea, but nobody is really asking for a headlight conversion harness which costs $200 :)

one possible alternative might be a nc relay to disable the parking light signal when the drl signal is present when feeding the v5’s.

I don’t believe anyone has DRL active with high beams on but I also don’t see why that would be inherently wrong. That behavior could be achieved as well with a relay, bypassing ECU logic which has DRL off with high beams, similar to fog lights off.

V5's Stay Bright until Signal tap from Low beam, then Dim. Grill Lights On with DRL, when Low is selected they continue to get juice from PARK. Diode separates DRL from PARK.

    @mokeiko "style":

V5 are DIM at ignition. Bright with HIGH Beams.

No variation for DRL and high beam for bright, park and low beam for dim? :)

Dim ON at ignition. Only changes to Bright with HIGH Beams. Odd, but that is somewhat of the "expected" feature Mokeiko stated. Dim with LOW (+ bonus IGN) Bright with High.

He didn’t really state the desired behavior when stalk is DRL. :)

What is YOUR point? He had no idea of how V5 behave...or how they CAN behave/function.

Adding a wire to the DRL circuit on the stalk to activate the added 5 pin relay makes mute your DRL stalk selection issue.:burp:

My point is, someone wanting DRL mode for high beams might also desire it for DRL mode too. It wasn’t specified. Hence it could be a cool alternative to dim w all but high.

but mostly trying to trick you into another design just because I like colorful images.

Once DRL input (Bright) is gone, HIGH Beams tap switch relay to juice the BRIGHT wire of V5. Diode to prevent backfeed to HEADLIGHT DRL's. (Bright)

Nice little diode there, gets it done! Very cool.

ETA: Oh, but just FYI, the red is DRL and white is parking light on the v5's, so red bright and white dim. At least as far as I know and as far as I've been building them based on the one I bought.

I would love if there was a way to implement a spot light similar to Fords into this blinker.

I'm sure the 2020 OEM LED's have that functionality IN A 2020 and up Tacoma. I have a 2017 and it doesn't work, I checked it by turning on the stalk from Auto, DRL, and ON. Turning on the high beams in each position and it has no effect on the brightness to the Meso v5's DRL.

I had a PM conversation with @daveeasa about the harness, which I was also confused about, and suggested either use his or meso's. This made me think "okay, that's all I need"

I assumed that when I saw other people in this thread with the v5's DRL, showing screenshots and videos of them in dim and bright situations, I thought all I needed was the plug and play harness that they both provided. Maybe that's true for newer Tacomas but apparently not for my 2017.

David, it seems you have a 2016. Do you have the 2020 OEM LED headlights together with Meso's v5 DRL switchback and are the dim and brightness of the DRL working for you using your own harness? Maybe meso's harness works differently?
