Call the salesmen and have him take 20 or 30 pictures of the undercarriage. Tell him you want quality photos and to e-mail them to you. Maybe the previous owner (PO) Fluid Filmed the bedraggles outta the thing. If PO put all them accessories on her, they probably didn't skimp on frame maintenance. This thing maybe just the ticket. Sure it might be some coin higher than you want to pay, but you could be dead in two years. Take the rubber band off your wallet and Tacoma up!!

Can't make the judgement until OP sees the frame. My 2015 was in CT its whole lift and the frame looks great. The last 10 years our winters have been very very mild.

I bought a 2013 for low blue book from a private party a couple months ago and just missed two others that went in the same range. You’ve gotta be religious about searching and quick to act when one pops up.

I honestly would tell anyone to hold off right now on buying a tacoma, especially if you are financing. That truck will be almost over 30k after fees, taxes etc. All of a sudden once the market corrects (who knows when) you will have a truck that is worth 10k less that what you paid leaving you very upside down on the loan. Yes, you can put a big down payment to offset this but it's like flushing 100 dollar bills down the toilet.

Tacoma's hold their value very well up here in the Northeast so they always fetch top dollar used. In February right before the pandemic hit I purchased my 2015 sport, 65k miles, certified pre-owned from a Toyota dealer for $23,800. Be patient and wait until you can pick one up for a decent price.

I need to look into this myself. USAA used to be great back in the day but like you I see the rates going up and up, including for homeowners which there is really no reason for massive increases here. When you quit did you get all the $$ out of the "subscriber savings account"? Or do they keep that?

100k miles, $13k, had new rubber, all mileage/service had just been completed and still has an extended factory warranty that transferred.

Judging from your avatar I’m guessing you’re in FL? I think usaa’s numbers are particularly bad there. I didn’t get anything back unfortunately despite even paying out of pocket for a claim they would have covered. (The contractor under their umbrella was scamming them so I told him to F off). Oh well.

No, not in FL anymore. Just an old Gator in Maryland where there are no hurricanes. It's possible you didn't have this on your policy if alls you had was HO. I have had them for auto for several decades and HO for less decades. It keeps accruing $ and annually they distribute some back. But they keep the balance to pad their asset sheet. I don't really understand how it works since I have never really dug into it. But the rise in HO rates seems absurd.... and auto rates I suspect may also not be as good as they once were.

Exactly this. All the extra money spent right now to buy anything with 4 wheels adds ZERO value to the transaction, so it is LITERALLY money wasted. Not sure why people are itching to buy vehicles right now since it makes zero sense whether it's a cash purchase or financing. Even if all my vehicles caught on fire and I needed something to drive, I'd just find the cheapest running pile of crap on Craigslist to get me through the next few years because once the chip shortage is over dealers are going to be giving huge discounts for new car purchases.

Cool. I wish I was back there now. Too friggin' cold here. And the salt sure hasn't helped my Tacoma's frame. Mass is at least as bad, I suspect.

I agree 100%. I want a new generation 4runner so bad, but I refuse to pay 45k for one that is 3 years old when that's how much it was new.

Getting stuck upside down is the worst thing you can do when it comes to owning a car. You literally can't do anything with it until you pay off the negative equity which in this case could be 10k+. Even worse because most auto loans on anything 5+years tends to bring higher interest rates.

It’s been negative 10-20 degrees where I am over the past week with wind chill. :( Good thing that Regular Cab heats up quick! Definitely a little rust on my frame although mostly on the welds. Had the treatment done recently so we’ll see how she holds up! Considering getting under there and doing some preventative sanding/spraying but torn between taking that approach and letting nature and the warranty run it’s course for the next few years.:notsure:

Almost as cold here. I am really glad I installed seat heaters a couple years ago. My frame also got the treatment. Seems to be doing OK, but I get under and spray some fluid film once in awhile where the treatment has not adhered perfectly. Watch out for your transmission cooling lines. I had one rust out just below where they connect to the transmission on the passenger side. If you have significant rust you might want to preemptively replace them. Because remember you have no dipstick and no way to top up the tranny if you get a leak. Ask me how this all works out... LOL.

    Ouch! Will do and thanks!

I think they stopping doing anything to the exterior of the frames during the treatment - seems they only sprayed some goop internally and plugged a few of the holes from what I can tell.

I'm sure you can get a little better deal in the rust belt then you can everywhere else.
