Anyone thinking of upgrading to new 22 tundra?

I got my deposit back after learning it wouldn't be until about 2024 that Canada sees the hybrid engine. Sunk more money into the Tacoma including ECU tune.

Also read articles about lowering their quality of the build in order to try to meet demand. Not a great peek into the future.

Sort of considering it, but with the nature of the vehicle market currently, doubt I'll be making any vehicle purchases in the next two years as it seems much more difficult to not lose your ass on a purchase unless you live out in the sticks with dealers that sell local and rely on word of mouth reputation.

Also, with the next generation of all mid-size trucks hitting in the next 2-3 years, it'll be interesting to wait and see what that evolution of market brings to the table: Ranger - Canyon/Colorado - Tacoma. At this point I'm just going to wait and see what the next few years bring along, which is uncharacteristic for me because I typically swap vehicles every 2-3 years. This Tacoma will be the longest I've owned a vehicle!

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    In a word .... NOPE.

EDIT: Just past the 1 year mark with my '21 TRD OR. If all goes well I won't even be thinking of a new vehicle for at least another decade (if I live that long).

I'd get a 3.5 EcoBoost F-150 before going with the new Tundra right now, although it's a Ford.

I like the new Tundra, styling is a bit to get use to. I'm not sure about the cab dimension, but that probably wouldn't be a problem.

I'd wait for the bugs to get worked out, and the market adjustments to go away before getting a new Tundra.

Edit: The Capstone edition sounds like it's named after an investment firm.

Lol the 2nd post w/ 8 pages titled "Turbo Issues" doesn't bode well.

AT least Toyota programmed the motor to still be able to run in limp mode with a stuck turbo wastegate. Given that Toyota has been using turbos on their 1KZ & 1KD motors for the last 20+ years, I'd guess it's an issue they'll be able to fix easily. Especially given this motor is going in the new LC

I'd seriously considered this despite my hesitance to buy a first year refresh as well as my dislike of the stop-start system. I reached out to 3 dealers who had incoming '22s & claimed they'd provide a price upon request. Instead they sent me spammy links & pdfs containing info that I already knew. End of flirtation.

It was really a case of what my ma used to say: "your eyes are bigger than your stomach". My trouble-free little red Taco actually fills my needs perfectly.

I'm actually going the other way.

My 2022 Tacoma was built yesterday and is now in transit. I'm trading in my 2014 Tundra.

I love the Tundra for most things, but my two oldest kids have their own cars now so it's just my 6 year old left.

The mileage in my Tundra is absolutely terrible as well. It's been pretty bullet proof though.

They are nice looking and will be way overpriced. Taco’s paid in full so, nope to more truck payments.

I had a '16 Tacoma that I traded in on a '17 Tundra. I have a '22 Tacoma now and while I dig the new Tundra, I will wait a couple of years for when the big truck market comes back down to earth.

I went from a 12 Tundra that I loved to an 18 Taco that I have come to really like. It took some getting used to. That said, when the new Tundra was announced I figured it was a no brainer that I would go back to a full size. I like the looks of the truck and appreciate the interior space.
However, the new truck is actually bigger than the old one and if I’m being honest with myself my old tundra got cumbersome to drive around town because it’s a big truck. Also, to equip it the way I want I need a Limited. The dealer has them at $55k marked up to $60k. Ugh, no thanks. I have a small loan on my Taco Limited, my kids fit in the back seat and it does all the truck stuff I need it to. I’m good.

I got in right under the wire with my ‘21 and I don’t see me getting a new generation Tundra at all.

I came close to getting a 21 Tundra but decided with the poor fuel mileage I no longer needed a full size truck. The 22 Tundra has some impressive technology, but I have a hard time with the front end styling. Looks too much like a Chevy HD front end to me. So for that reason I would not buy one. I have a 19 Tacoma that I’m happy with.

I don't mind the turbos. Diesels have had turbos forever and turbos in general can last a long time. While they're expensive to replace, it's not like you have to replace the entire engine.

My problem is the hybrid addition. While those "battery pack" (hybrid engine basically) can last a long time, maybe 10 years, aren't they like 10k to replace?

    Like, so many.
I personally would consider that more of a lateral move than an upgrade.

No, considering a GX460 while it's still an option though. Really seems like it won't be long before most offerings are ruined.
