My thoughts as well from what I have heard. I'm just curious if there will be a base engine option and a non base option, and what that would be.

"A normal spin-on type oil filter is installed horizontally at the front of the engine." - per the link.
That will make some people happy at least. I gotta burn through my 4 year stock pile of cartridge filters I guess.

That RON 95 is gonna piss off some people though.

I'd assume for the Taco they'll pull the power numbers back a hair and allow it to run on regular.

Not sure if they will use a mechanical or an electric fan on the next Tacoma which could also alter the power numbers slightly too.

Wonder if it'll have stop-start like the NX. I think they have iterations without it, but my guess is they will have it for max MPG.

Not much has changed, as Mr. you-know-who at TTCAA won't answer those questions and the rest are somewhat siloed or not "there", to have the whole puzzle. He seemed a bit annoyed I had caught onto that too, but it's his own fault LOL. I'm just very observant, of what people let slip (hehe). Some of you guys back in 2019-20, when I hadn't even been discussing powertrains yet, cleverly brought up the 2.4L Turbo out of nowhere in OVTune discussions and totally got it right.:thumbsup:

I'm curious of the possibility, that in addition to the hybrid, hopefully a lower tune of V35A-FTS V6, rated at around 348 hp will make its way into the Tacoma and 4Runner in some fashion? Cannot be certain, as might almost certainly be the 2024 Lexus GX 550 or to create a prestige gap, for Lexus maybe even a tune which places it closer to 360-365. This right here is total speculation on my part and zero confirmation. Just an idea, for a halo TRD model. Then main trims, powered by I4T and of course the hybrid as the upgrade engine, with TRD Pro miraculously getting the lowest V35A-FTS tune offered by Toyota? We have said the Tacoma and 4Runner will definitely go 4-cylinder, but no one internally has said they will not offer a V6 for certain. Just not the same output as the core line of Tundra/Sequoia and larger BOF Toyotas. All engines will likely be Dynamic Force forced induction and not NA. The new 31xx-2 Colorado and Canyon will offer only 2.7L I4T, while at Ford we got a few tricks up our sleeves... Nissan currently makes do, through at least 2026 with the current Frontier and its 3.8L VQ38. Titan is dead, as I predicted back in 2019-20, from my final SH briefings.

Anyway, GX 550 being a TTV6, makes one wonder. Unless Toyota has developed a twin turbo I4 of some sort, I doubt that Lexus is an I4. Another V6, of maybe 3.0L is probably very unlikely, but still possible for mid-sized utilities?

LX 600 = 3.4L TTV6 at full tune, while GX 550 might be 3.4L TTV6 at lower tune closer to Tundra SR or new 3.0L turbo V6, to be also used in Prado, halo 4Runner TRD Pro and Tacoma TRD Pro, halo Hilux and Fortuner? Not likely, but on the power train front I don't have anything clear cut. Just know about I4 hybrid, new petrol I4 turbo coming, and possible retention of international diesels, such as 2.8L carrying over and 3.3 F33A-FTV V6 diesel, making its way to Prado.

We should hopefully know more by autumn, when dealers are have been at least shown this vehicle twice during the year. Last year, they were shown the Sequoia twice, at one February 9th function and another more discreet one in September. No Tacoma shown, as Toyota USA is very selective on what they showcase at these internal functions I figure.

Someone said last September, no information was provided on the 4Runner and Tacoma at that function. Yet they mention what I believe is 2024MY Grand Highlander. Another nameless person said, they made mention of 2023MY Sequoia AND 2023 4Runner, which has made me go radio silent on the 4Runner, because I'm clearly getting mixed signals on only that one and do not like passing around bad info. I hear from reliable sources early 2024, while David Chao of AP and that one nameless person, claim 2023MY emphatically. These sources from Toyota corporate and Tier 1 suppliers for my early 2024 dates.

I would be very, very surprised if the TRD Pro didn't get a different engine option in the next generation. While they've had no problem moving them so far, and while it would certainly make sense from a profit stand point to keep all the trucks using the same engine, I can't imagine it's not at least a sensible idea to separate the Pro from the Off Road further.

Of course one model could get a hybrid assist similar to the Tundra...

That's my guess, I would say standard engine would be 2.4t and the trd pro or maybe other higher trims will get the hybrid option.

The only thing that sucks about this is that it will make the tacoma trd pro much more expensive than it already is. And I feel like it is still overpriced like every other vehicle out there.

The 4Runner really needs a higher priority. Although it still has high resale value, it’s a bit of a dinosaur.

Thanks for this info. We have a lease on another vehicle up in April 2024 and would like to buy a Tacoma, which is pretty dependent on this obviously.

Will be following/bookmarking this thread for updates - your posts and Carmaker1's posts are invaluable. :)

Negative - looks like a similar location to the 2GR series, albeit on the driver side of the motor now.

Ah... At least the mess will only go all over the frame, lol. A previous FORD I had was setup the same. They tried to make a plastic catch for it but it just got in the way.

It's hard to say without seeing the frame but I'd say this looks like a good location. I'd be surprised if it spilled on anything, but once again, that's just speculation based on my past experience with the 3rd Gen and 2.5 Gen Tacoma motors.

I believe the picture is showing you the front of the motor, so that oil filter would be located roughly between/below the battery and radiator fan in the 3.5L engine bay.
