I got into options. Probably my most expensive hobby, though it pays for my other hobbies sometimes too

 

That sounds too much like work for me (finance / accounting).

 

I just like to look for patterns and entry points and scalp. Sometimes you win big but sometimes you lose big lol

 

I made out OK on GME at its peak and had a good position to cash in on BTC before the dip. I'm serially unlucky so I don't dare put my gains in and double down on losing them

this tells me it's actually CL 16 so a matching kit is only $100 something which is great!

 

Added heat sinks to my M.2 so that they matched and would run cooler. For $9 a pop it was well worth it








i also decided to just buy another set of additional ram. Same set as before so 2x16 DDR4 3200 cl16

figured buy now and have 64gb of decently fast memory vs waiting and it cost double in a few months - it went up $15 since yesterday already...

Basically my first set is 16-16-16-38 while the new set is 16-18-18-38. so a SMIDGE slower (limit wise)

If I care to I can definitely overclock to make them faster. XMP should do that for me to some degree anyways

I've been eyeballing that controller as well though, solid reviews. Might stop by the local store after work tomorrow, see if they have one in stock.

I wasted an hour of video game time trouble shooting new ram.

I'm adding 2 additional sticks to my 2 stick kit. Both same speeds, same timings, same capacity, same manufacturer, same part number and everything. In theory it should work.

Disabled xmp, reset cmos, and the system kept rebooting, like it was stuck. MoBo led indicated it was a ram issue so that's comforting.

Finally swapped old and new ram in same slots and boom, the computer kept restarting like before.

I then swapped back to the old kit in the original slots and the computer worked as usual.

I deduced that the ram sticks I got were bad, but I might be missing something



Talking to @Sterdog it might be my CPU limiting 4 DIMMS but I'm still going to try with a fresh set

made a quick model for a controller holder. Left Side mounted so it's got room for the wire. Going to be velcro'd on so no holes needed

Having a hard time justifying it when it's only $40 more for another share

 

Sorted my memory issues! Basically I swapped the sticks out with the ones I had and the worked right away. Messed with bios settings and turned off all the over clock settings again and basically got it to work!

officially on 64 gb and I got it up to 3000MHz too!





I have 200 MHz left to squeeze out but I think I’ll have to start with a voltages.

Just the availability of this stuff now vs 10 years ago when I got into it is crazy.

I built an acrylic container to fit in my spare HDD bays with a submerged aquarium pump and externally mounted heat exchanger from a junk yard, and I remember worrying that I couldn't afford a leak detector. ...Ahh... minimum wage lol
Learned a lot about a lot though at that time, just on my quest to save money and have maximum performance. I even bought a $20 ice maker from goodwill and stripped the internals out so I could run a chilled water supply, but it never came to fruition.
