I've only run C range tires. I'm looking for a set of tires for the wife's 4Runner, considering the Ultraterrains.
My question is, are the SL tires Ok for mild offroading (forest roads, desert washes, etc) with no towing or airing down, or should I stick with load range C tires?

Many folks run the SL tires and still do a bit of off-roading. If the vehicle is primarily ran on the roads and the little off-roading that you do doesn't involve sharp obstacles, the benefits of sticking with an SL may outweigh running the LT models. We are happy to help further PM on the way.

51lbs vs 40 lbs for SL. I run the E tire and could not be happier but also play in sharp rocks. If i were you, I'd stick with light duty tires for the wife's 4 runner.

@zonataco And yes to GIS. :) Many, many moons ago I was in that discipline using ArcInfo....who ya call'n old? :D

    Thanks for the response!
I agree on the LT's. I think I've narrowed it down to the UltraTerrains and BFG KO2's.
Was ArcInfo the predecessor to ArcGIS?

Hey Discount Tire, I tried to buy some UT-AT's today ahead of a storm, but the online inventory didn't match the store's inventory. Can you PM me an incentive to buy them after the snowpocolpyse?

Excellent and good luck. And yes sir ArcInfo was command line/script based vs GUI.

Looking to get these for my 2022. Will Discount Tire buy my old tires? They would have like 1100 miles on them.

I'm only a week into owning these tires but I wanted to share my thoughts on them since I've now tried both SL and E load version of these tires YMMV.

I'm coming from BFG KO2s which I like a lot except for in the rain. I wanted to give the UTs a try because they are lighter and supposedly better in wet weather. I drove on the SLs for 3 days but I couldn't find the inflation level that was just right for me. I tried 32-35 PSI. My truck had more pep than usual, but even at 35 PSI, the feel was a little mushy when entering and exiting a turn. I saw no difference in mpg. The sidewalls were just too flexy for my liking, so I decided to take em back and go with LT265/75R16 E loads. Thank you Discount Tire! I'm now back at the same power level I had before with the KO2s and its fine. I'd rather have that then a mix of pep and mushiness. So far, I'm pretty happy with the UTs. The cornering response is immediate. I'm looking forward to getting up to the mountain this winter and really trying them out. Here is a side by side comparison (SL left, E right). Visually, the differences are very subtle. The lugs are a bit more pronounced and the tread is slightly deeper on the E loads.

Very interesting! When I went from Michelin LTX A/T2s to UltraTerrain SLs, the big difference was the loss of crisp turn-in when cornering. Michelins had an immediate response to steering input and the UTs did not. After several thousand miles I have pretty much gotten used to the feel of my UTs but I do wish they cornered more like my old Michelins. Other than that minor nit, I love 'em. Great to hear that the E-rated UTs solve that problem.

I'll admit I'm biased towards what I've been running for the last 16 years. I also agree its not so bad that you can't get used to it. I figure if you're going to spend this kind of money you should get what you want, right? I had never used it before this but I really appreciate Discount Tire's awesome return policy.
