    ADD IFS problems...

Both my inner CV boots are blown. The right side looks to have blown out well before now. I took the wheels off in search of bad tie rods that were producing a vibration which I though for the longest time was just my 33s being out of balance, but when it persisted when I put the 32s back on it and they hadn't had any vibes before, it was time to look for worn out tie rods and ball joints. Turns out it was my RH tie rods. Everything else appears to be tight with the only problem being the upper ball joint boots are torn on both sides, so it was an unwelcome surprise to see this mess and the blown CV boots. Now I have to do something I haven't had to do since I sold the OGT...yank CV axles. Stupid ADD...

Because the CV axles are turning all the time as opposed to the OGT with the free wheel hubs. If they don't turn they don't blow out. On the down side, I'd lose the on-the-fly AWD mode. But still, it's stop and lock the hubs verses tearing the front end apart to replace CV boots due to wear from constantly turning...that's kind of a no brainer.

@Taco No Baka What's up Lee! Yea both my 4Runners are Full time, so I'm always checking those boots. Some times I've caught them soon enough to use some bicycle patches on them if the tear isn't too big. Clean it real good, glue the patch on, and hit it with a lighter so it burns for a about 15 seconds.

I had one period over about six to eight months where it seemed a freaking boot was leaking every time I crawled under the damn things.

Had several fitment issues with the dime store brands too. That is a full blown kick in the balls when you put it all back together and you can't even turn it by hand because it's binding. I check them over pretty thoroughly now before I put it back in the truck.

Cv axles are designed to constantly turn. That’s why the boots are designed that way.

But if put at more than angle than the designers thought, they fail.

And yet the fact remains, if they don't turn, they don't fail.

I have a diff drop so the angles aren't much different than stock, especially since the OG4 is a pavement princess.

You don't have a spare input spline shaft do you? Still need to do mine but would have to split both cases to take my current shaft out to reuse.

Tell me about it. The only IFS that never failed me was the Ford TTB IFS both with and without auto-locking hubs.

Nope only if you’re a manual. This case went right in. The manual tacoma you have to swap the shafts from your case to the fj.
