Between the move and hurting my back again I haven't given the Tacoma any love since last summer. I did do a bunch of steering work on the crawler though...

My buddy was cleaning out his shop and offered me this elocker housing with a jungle gym attached. Ive been poking at it here and there and getting it cleaned up. I have some perches to weld on so I can slap my third in and put it under the Tacoma to get rid of the disaster Diamond. I went back and forth on leaving the truss but said fuck it.

Did you try unhurting your back? Glad to see you’re working on stuff! When I get back from hammers I’ll have to come down there and drink your beer while handing you some tools

An eternity of grinding later I decided the housing was clean enough.

    Goodbye garbage

    PXL_20220501_035755069.jpg

Mocked up the perches, set the pinion angle, and tacked the perches in place.

Pulled out, welded, and rattlecan rebuild complete

I'm gonna have to relocate my upper shock mounts but I'll worry about that later.

Yeah, for now that seems like the best option. I could have skipped so much wasted time and money if I had kept my welded 8.4 but I thought I'd gotten an "upgrade" with the diamond and elocker setup. The elocker has never worked since the first trip, though. I need to buy a new plug and repin it. When i pulled the axle out I discovered the wires pulled out of the harness from low range so hopefully that's all it was, poor crimping and connection.

Eventually I will try and snag a 1 ton rear and start building that.

cut the lower shock mounts off the OEM spring plates and welded them up before putting the third in and getting the axle ready to bolt in

The other night I bolted the axle in, torqued the third hardware, filled it with the 85W140 ECGS prescribes.

Tonight I poked at some smaller stuff. I changed the lower shock bushings which were more beat than the picture shows from running a threaded 3/4" bolt for the shock mount on the old axle.

Also did the 3,000 mi oil change. I should lower the interval or switch to hours to account for trail time lol

Still got some grinding and welding to do. Also waiting on line and fittings so I can make new hard lines for the brakes.

Nahhh 3k is way too often.
I started sending in my oil to blackstone every oil change and i'm at like 10-11k mile oil change intervals now w/ full synth.

Fair enough, without doing a UOA it's a best guess. The oil came out black but that doesn't mean the base oil or additive packages aren't doing their job anymore. I figure it's cheap insurance on a truck that I have been abusing a lot when it's not riding jackstands :notsure: I did a UOA 6~ years ago and I think Blackstone recommended a 6000 mi OCI but that was when the truck saw a majority of street miles.

I could cut the center section out of it and weld up the tubes so I have "sealed" storage for a spare third :homer:
