I didn't do anything to it today, but a fellow motorist decided he wanted to play peek a boo with my rear diff.

Seems to be pretty good. It’s a pretty common setup if you look through the crawl box thread.

I think the best you could hope for from a junkyard is a Tundra 3rd member with an LSD. You'd be pretty lucky to actually find one, but I researched this a while back... '00-'06 4wd v6 regular and access cab Tundras had 4.30 gears, and some had a factory-installed (Eaton) or dealer-installed (Kazuma) LSDs. The 3rd member supposedly swaps neatly into Tacoma 8.4" axles.

Source for gear ratios: Source for LSD info: https://www.tundras.com/threads/whats-in-your-rear-end.42904/

Gotcha. Yea I couldn't remember if it was the other way around or not.
I have seen some folks modify the housing to get it in there, but yea I would rather just weld on perches and stuff than deal with that.

Didn't know the 1g tundras had that ratio as well. But yea I have a buddy that had a 1g tundra with an "auto LSD" rear. Or at least that's what the button on his dash was. Which I think was just using ABS to help with wheel spin or something like that? I forget. Been a while since I researched it.

Yep, "Auto LSD" is a simulated LSD: What I was talking about is a true, clutch-type LSD. It's always working and wouldn't have a button on the dash.

The LSD in the 8.4 was mechanical. 2nd gen tacos had it as well from 05-08 before ATRAC took over for it. Its a true clutch LSD.

I believe all LSD 8.4 diffs were 3.93 or 3.73

I got a few things done on my project.
    • Finished the passenger side with dyna liner
    • Got the MLV down
    • Gaskets on the shifter base of the crawl box shifter base
    • Ran the wiring for my infinity bass link mini
    • Cleaned up the wiring

    4.70???
Parts diagrams only list 3.93 and 3.73 for the 1st gen tundras. The v6 trucks never came lsd and were 4.10s

Far as I know the tallest gear ever offered factory was 4.56. Now I’m curious

yeah let me know. I think I've seen 2 guys with it and remember going WTF? Because 4.70 is a weird ration by itself.

What clutch? The noise on my TOB is making me paranoid so might do it all.
