I did this (fish the bolts through the frame I mean) once on a Altima and it wasn't bad that time maybe I just got lucky.... but I will be extra cautious now and hope I don't lose them in the bumper.... thanks for the tip.

 

Just installed mine today.. put a coat of sealant on it first though especially at the welds, one more layer of protection won’t hurt.. install was 30 minutes. Fishing wasn’t that bad just be patient, the guide hole next to the feed hole on the driver side is bigger and is the easier side to fish through.

 

That’s good to know and your install looks great. I’m not exactly sure what type of sealant you mean but I was planning on spraying it down with Wool Wax…. So that should do it…. The one that is on the Altima (that I gave to my daughter for college) looks like a rusty mess 6-7 ish years later….. so they definitely need to be coated or sealed or something….

glad it’s only 30 mins actual…. In my head it seems like it should take about 10 mins but there’s the “how long it actually takes” curve, which usually means 3x as long…

My 3rd Taco. 2017 AC SR 2.7L 4x4 MT (my second 3rg gen.)
Flew from MO to NC to pick her up then drove back overnight (950mi drive) - which I do not recommend. Was almost $400 deep on the plane ticket alone so I had to commit. Lol. Definitely paid too much but I have no regrets.

How many miles and what did you pay? The 2.7 is bulletproof.

 

I just installed the same part. I used one of those pen magnets to assist in the fishing of the bolts. That helped a lot. What I found hard was holding the receiver up to start the side bolts. I then used a regular size 5 gallon bucket and placed the receiver on top of the bucket. My lift from bucket height to install the bolt was much doable after that. Good luck.

 

Little bit of excitement here today. Awhile back I bought a set of TRD Sport wheels (takeoffs) locally, but wasn't at a point yet where I could get some tires for them.

The tires are here and getting mounted tomorrow (Cooper Discoverer AT 265/70r17) I cannot wait to see how my truck looks after, been running on the steelies since I bought her back in July of 2017!

You can see I wasted no time loading it up haha.

 

Part of my issue with the hitch install was undoubtedly that my drunk neighbor was there trying to help me and I didn't have the heart to tell him to fuck straight off. He undid a few things and ripped one of the fish wires right apart.

I still think it's cleaner to go in from the top though. That way it puts the bolt head on the exposed bottom of the receiver and keeps the protruding threads up and inside the bumper. Just looks better to my eyes.

 

Beer is for AFTER the install not during.... at least you have a good story about it which I won't have....

 

Set it on some jack stands then hold it up with your knees or a jack.

 

That was my plan, on a nice day... so that way afterword I can drink beer and feel all good about myself, of course in reality I really wouldn't have done a whole lot....

 

Are those SR5 Alloys 16s or 17s? I like em!

Those wheels are '19< in Black. '16-'18 they were Gunmetal gray and were even an option for '16 SR's iirc. The '19< wheels are also the SX wheel.

 

Sounds good. I do have a question on the torque of 150 pounds on the 4 bolts. Did you do that? I torqued it to 80 since that is all I have and I can either buy me a tool or rent one at a parts store but I was wondering if that is really needed. Meaning, my 4cyl has a tow of 3000, and this receiver is class 3 with capability of about 8k. Well, I will never tow that, both on purpose (will only be using it for a bike rack, and a small teardrop type rv with ) and since my 4cyl can't handle it. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

 

I didn't check torque. I just tightened them up as much as I could and marked them with paint. Haven't moved since.
