ah nice, yeah the berries do resemble the pictures. they were growing more in a group of small plants rather than large bushes though, almost more of a ground cover than a bush, but maybe thats because they're browsed on so much? i'm goingto try to find a picture, or take one saturday

I agree. usually only call when ive seen one thats not going to come my way,but some of the youngins i hunt with will blind call especially when sitting near thick cover like late in the evening. but also is just opinion here.they do have some luck with the grunt and bleat calls.

I think deer are also curious to an extent if not overly pressured. Back in the early '80s while fall turkey hunting in central Pa, I saw a buck at about 90 yards.....clucking and yelping softly brought the 6 point in to 30 yards broadside. Ever since I keep at least one diaphragm call with me at all times deer hunting. I have also 'calmed down' a few other does over the years with soft turkey calls. Maybe the deer figure if there are turkeys around all is cool???

i live in PG county, College Park area, and have been hunting archery only areas in moco/howard

i've heard this anecdote as well. never been turkey hunting but have first hand experience of them being spookier/ more aware (dont they have really good eyesight) than deer so it makes sense somewhat. lines up with the "walk like a squirrel or a deer" i was told as well, either stutter stepping or using a tree branch as a third "leg" to conceal the human sounding bipedal walk

Personally, I think turkeys are extremely paranoid and not necessarily super smart.......saw a flock running repeatedly into a baseball outfield fence trying to 'escape' when all they had to do was go about 10-15 feet to the right where the fence ended to get away!!

are you talking about through the Meade Natural Heritage Association http://www.mnha.net/ ? i hadn't pursued that much since it requires a permit and a qualifying day, but sounds like you're saying it could be worth it for next year? i've been hunting on the reservoir properties mostly this season, archery only, and generally go to the adelphi manor archery range for practice

I live in Prairieville Louisiana, but deer hunt in Natchez Mississippi. Been hunting there since 2005. It is my wife’s family’s land. I hunt with my father in law and my sons.
We do not have a high fence, so our deer population can come and go. But we do get some very nice bucks on camera every year and get lucky every once in a while.
We killed a few nice bucks over the years.
Anyway, I got an 8 point on Jan. 3 during the rut and yesterday my paw in law got an 8 point. It was 22 degrees yesterday and they were moving. I saw 2 bucks (8 point and a 6 point) over the weekend. But neither were bigger than the one I already got.
It is always great spending time with my family outdoors. These are recent pics.

Thanks. We Bow hunt too. That season is in October and November. I have a Mathews and my father in law has a Hoyt.
We have both killed a few with our bows over the years.
