Went to check out Coast Road in Big Sur but the rangers closed the gate about a mile in on the south end of the trail. We had some serious downpours a few weeks ago and this is one of the ruts leading to the trail just to find the gate closed. There were already ruts like this four or five miles in before the heavy rains; wish I had a drone to see what renders it impassable.

I have a really stupid question but is 4WD supposed to feel kinda hesitant while turning in the snow at a low speed? I don't want to damage my transfer case. I know it should only be used in low traction scenarios so thats why I'm asking. I don't go offroad or drive in snow very often

edit: I still have lots of traction in the snow, so thats probably why

Not a stupid question. Very normal feeling. It requires more use of the gas pedal.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
No off road in the last 3 months due to too much snow in the mountains here.

    Does this count?

I was driving 300 miles per week for a few weeks in this weather. Some spots so icy it took 2 - 3 truck lengths to come to a stop when doing 3mph. Snow tires and 400 pounds of sand bags in the back and could barely get around even in 4-high on the flats. The highways the worse with the snow packed down to ice. The side roads with deep snow much safer, at least some traction in that.

Had a long stretch with not much snow removal, and many commercial truckers were killed on the highways in the last month in BC. There are 3 main mountain routes used by thousands of commercial truckers per day. They were closed for several weeks due to record slides and flooding. When one finally opened to commercial traffic only (Highway 3 Hope to Princeton) there were double load tractor trailers trying to pass lines of other tractor trailers, passing on double solids while going uphill on a blind corner. Crazy insane shit.

Have not washed the truck since the first week in November, first snow came a week later and kept coming. Starting to get some freakish warm weather now (38F highs) so maybe get a wash in soon get some salt and crap off.

Thanks! I love when it snows, it's usually the only time NJ gets serene.

beautiful fish! I imagine that BC has hundreds of these wonderfully remote drive-up lake trips. The western US is so crowded. Cheers!
