How to wax ‘21 TRD Sport Wheels

What’s the best wax and method for applying? How often is this needed?

for the OEM wheels

 

I just heard about this stuff from Chemical Guys not too long ago, but I haven't used it.

I spray this on my wheels anytime I hand wash in the driveway, I'm not sure I can say it does anything though.

Who honestly waxes their rims? It’s a truck, not a Bentley.

I’ve never owned painted rims before, I’ve just heard you need to wax them. Sorry this was a retarded question obviously.

 

Not at all a retarded question. Been washing, waxing and detailing trucks and cars for over 60 years. I have always waxed custom wheels (or nice OEM wheels). Before that I waxed hubcaps

 

Not a dumb question. Use whatever wax you have on hand. Even the "quick detail" spray will help. Something is better than nothing. I like to use an old rag to wax the wheels so I don't dirty my nice applicator pad.

 

I don't wax my own wheels because they're matte bronze and it would be a waste of time. I've waxed customers wheels before and it usually turns out alright if the wheels are chrome.

 

I sold my daily driver X5 and bought a Tacoma for daily duties for the very purpose of NOT having to worry about washing and waxing.

But…. if you are going to wax, then go with the Brazilian wax.

You paid good money for your truck, nothing wrong with keeping it nice. It is called looking after your money!

Waxed wheels are easier to clean also.

 

I wax mine on a regular basis, even do so on my 1995 civic. These are painted surfaces that need protection just like any other painted surface. As stated above, it makes cleaning easier and helps keep brake dust from damaging the finish. Whatever wax you normally use is fine. Turtlewax hybrid ceramic is great.

Clean them first (of course) and whatever pad, towel, etc. you use on your wheels should only ever be used on your wheels. Keep these separate from what you use on your body paint.

 

Come on, be honest there’s more reasons than that to go from an X5 to a Tacoma. Notoriously unreliable vehicle, albeit a sweet one, to notoriously reliable. You don’t have to worry about when or where the Christmas tree on the dash will light up any more

OP I would suggest cleaning them frequently, but if you want the cleaning to be easier ceramic coating is probably the way to go.

I had an X5 40e it was 4 cylinder turbo plugin hybrid with a sport package. Big heavy beefy of an suv that I would avg 27mpg in daily commuting. I never did get any check engine lights but on occasion I would get headlight errors that would go away at restart. When my warranty was up, I either would have to pay about $6k for BMW extended warranty or play Russian roulette going forward. Decided to sell it instead since used car values were up and we all know most BMW’s have terrible resale value.

I miss the panoramic sunroof and the seats.
Might hack up the roof on my Taco one day and install X5 seats too
