Factory Heated Seats Failure

would be great to see! Mine just burned out a second time on the driver’s seat! First time it was just the amp and I simply replaced it. Now, the plug has burned into the amp and i need to replace both!

 

Been wanting to do this for ever. Just read through the thread and can't decide if getting a new module with new molex connectors would be an upgrade and long term solution or the whole new harness and module would also be a long them solution?

Haven't heard back or reports from those with the new harness.

Getting new molex connectors this week. Will update.

 

Its all ready to have the new parts soldiered to the board.

I’ve read that if the element is broken, it can cause a short resulting the burnt plug. Has anyone replaced the whole element (8750-0405)? If so, did this cure the issue?

 

The element is not normally the issue. The extremely poor quality connectors is the main issue.

 

Hopefully, so. I have to replace the plug this time. It’s much easier doing that than replacing the whole element in the seat.

 

I was told you need to put new molex connectors in order to properly fix the issue. If you just replace the connector, the problem will still come back.

 

Unfortunately, I’ve already purchased the whole element from Toyota just for the stupid plug! If/when it fails again, I’ll go the Molex route. Actually, I’m going to go ahead and order the parts to have on hand..

 

I think if you use some dielectric grease in the connector, it may help slow it from burning out so quickly.

 

Thanks! I’ll pick some up today. Do you know which AWG wire the terminal connector uses, 16 or 18-24?

 

Not exactly sure on the wire gauge. If I were to go off memory, I would say it’s probably 16?

So I finally got one of the modules repaired. Turned out awesome! Works great now!

 

Note** The yellow wire was not needed. Only 4 wires used instead of 5

 

Nice job. Did you get a new "old" part number though for the amp ?

 

Anyone tried replacing the heat elements with a better working aftermarket version?

 

I just reused the original part. Works fine. I was told by the guy that repaired it that the style of connector used is of very poor quality. He also noted that moving the connector away from the amp would help.

 

Anyone out there selling upgraded mods... I would gladly mail out my burnt up module to someone more handy who could upgrade it like the last guy did.
