Just to be clear, I have no hate toward California, or any other state, or the people who migrate from there. I totally get it, and I'm all about people finding a better place for themselves and families.
California transplants do come in large numbers to the mountain west though. So, lower inventory means higher pricing for homes. And through no fault of their own, the prices here seem incredible. Being able to afford a 3K sq.ft. home for the price of a 1 bd. apt is mind-blowing. So the homes are now selling for more, because (of course, generally speaking) transplants are willing to pay more for them than locals were/are. This is happening all over the Rockies.
Like I said, plenty of space here, but resources like water are not aplenty in a desert state. We just have to be smart about development and be nice to one another! This state, or any other, doesn't belong to any one of us and we should definitely welcome any/all who appreciate it and are willing to help us take care of it.
    Nevertheless, this video is hysterical...

yea that's probably what it boils down to. but its frustrating to see people be so exclusionary, especially when it comes to the outdoors.

well said. I get the source of frustration, but it seems a lot of people, at least on the webz, bitch about the people coming there, instead of what to do and how accommodate an influx, so that more people can enjoy these wonderful areas. I say this as a native southern californian, where population density and "overcrowding" have been issues for years/decades. I still welcome transplants, and love to share the city/region I love with new people.

There's rubbing like this all race long depending on the race. It's just never that exciting to watch except from these on-board snippets.

Certain races this only really happens near the end but for many races this is very much what the first hour can look like before the breakaway goes. Some races, like the spring classics for instance, this is what it can be like going into every corner.

Crits and track racing are very much "elbows out" racing.

It's not really a contact sport but you use your elbows and shoulders much more than a casual observer would notice.

In amateur racing the higher the category the more this goes on.

Watch some old clips of Robbie McEwen or Mark Cavendish dishing out some final-sprint headbuts on YouTube.

As someone who rides hydras all of your points all false. :rofl:In all seriousness, the way you can say increased drag is why you don't run hydra's and how you have never missed an obstacle due to engagement are not quantifiable.... Those "numbers" are in your head. Heavy DH casings increase drag not a hub. I know everyone has different experiences but those are claims not facts. Please explain further for the group.

I have no hate towards Californians moving to my hometown. On the contrary, I love CA so much, I bought a place there.

The more POE = drag thing is *technically* correct, but like you said your choice of tire, or even the variable weight of whether you hit the bathroom before you left are going to be way more "material" in terms of performance impact. I can def say that the nearly instantaneous Hydra engagement has for sure gotten me over an obstacle or two I fumbled with on lower POE hubs on some of my favorite trails, but is it worth it for the extra $? Debatable.

    That said: #zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Damn :(

That was pretty amazing right up until it wasn’t. Is there any info on how he did post crash (other than the ominous video title)?

Yea I get that more surface area making contact technically equals more drag but can anyone really feel that in their pedal stroke or somehow coming to a stop quicker after pedaling ceases? I can 100% feel more POE on a technical climb same as you. Definitely debatable in terms of cost and each individual has to make their own choices there. I was just perplexed that he was saying hydras were some how inferior to 1/1 on performance. Maintenance or longevity and we have ourselves a debate for sure.

Shit, right? I broke my ribs in the fall and missed the end of the season. I've been riding inside since then. It will be three months at least before the trails are open. Might be able to get in a (cold) road or gravel ride in the next few months.

Otherwise I'm living vicariously through those in warmer places. My best training bud moved to BC just before winter. It's killing me to see his Instagram and strava.
