Good morning fellow Porchatonians and welcome Tim!!! Where are you located in CA, Tim?

Another cold day here in northeast PA - not going to get out of the 20s and overnight low into tomorrow is predicted at -5.....and we are planning on a hot air balloon flight tomorrow morning.

I need to run some errands this morning - pick up an anti-inflammatory refill for our older Lab and get chlorine and clarifier for the hot tub. This afternoon we're going to drop by a local beer distributor that is offering a tasting of some products. Then...Happy Hour!

    Stay safe and warm!

    Morning all:

    Sue.

Need to get around to doing another small project that I really don't enjoy doing. After the Flintlock season I shoot the Fl and clean it, it's a PITB to clean a black powder barrel and the rest of the hardware after firing it, maybe get it done today, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, but I'll get it done!

X2 The honor of having served finally meant a lot to me in 1984. Took a long time for me to accept the fact: For every grunt in the field, it took 20 persons to support him. I had felt not worthy because I did not put my life on the line day in and day out. Since then, I have tried to support our active military when and where I can. If you know a friend or have a relative deployed in a combat zone, send them magazines or comic books. I can guarantee you once that person reads them the periodicals are passed around the barracks.

You are correct. Once a company goes public the company is beholding to the shareholders to make as much profit as they can.

Welcome Tim. Glad you stopped by. Pull up a chair and if you can post up a few pics of your Tacoma.

Yesterday was a non-snow event where I live. Just rain and overcast skies. Temps dropped; it was 19 degrees this morning with a high of 28 today. Going grocery shopping first then off to the Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD to remove the wreaths from my parents' graves. Mom and Dad are buried side by side at Cheltenham. Then back home for lunch and guitar practice. Dinner is ribeye's with half a baked potato and asparagus tonight.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals (Susan sighting!). Well sunshine is back, and we'll soar into the 40*s today, but back to 20* something overninght again. For all the colorful weather radar, really nothing happened at all around here. We had some sprinkles - nothing else.

The chimney sweep was an adventure in "really, they are all like that?". Several places called, too weird or not answering phones or email. The place I used was good enough to answer, offer a prompt appointment, and give me a "wrong" price. "$129". Sounds good - I'm only cleaning it so nothing falls on the insert installer. Kid shows up with the most ragged tools you can imagine. The sweep head looked like an alien toy you moght see Marvin the Martian play with. It had like 7 bristles left on it. And, it was $129 to inspect, and $99 to clean, but I got some "mumble, mumble" discount, so $200 and change. Ah well, it's done.

He did point out in pictures, that I need to reseal/surface the crown though. Too cold today, but do you do it? "Sure, $499." OK, I'll remember that....sure I will! A bucket of what you need is $61, and I will find someone who wants to paint it in an hour and pay them $100 for the hassle!

 LOL! That wasn't supposed to be a morning rant, but I guess so. Anyway, have a great Friday. Or, in retirement world, Friday.

Yup, probably the norm! If I don't fire it off it could stay loaded year to year, but once fired the BP is highly corrosive and the gun needs to be cleaned ASAP to keep the bore and other parts in good condition, it is an accurate gun, and I like to try to keep it that way!
I just ordered 2 more Flemish strings for the crossbow, judging by the way the rifle and Fl season went this year we are becoming more and more dependent on archery to get deer, would love to get back to Northern Maine to hunt, but those days are in the rear-view mirror for both me and my buddy! :(

    Morning all.
Well Mimi and I have an appointment Monday afternoon concerning starting our wills. It's something we need to do while we still can.
To be truthful, it's a little scary but it's something that needs to be accomplished. I've been thinking about it for a while, but I could never get Mimi to buy into it.
We have 6 nieces and nephews who we are going to leave our vast fortune :) to.
We think we have all of our ducks in a row but I'm sure we'll have a rude awakening/s when we get farther into this process!
Also, we have to find a good financial planner in our area because talking (via phone) to "my guy" in Boston I just don't get that warm fuzzy feeling...not that he's not working hard for us...I think face to face is better.
So it looks like we'll be a little busy for the unforeseeable future.

I hate it when that happens. Service companies need to be upfront about the costs. On another front I am considering installing an Over the Air antenna to my AV system. I know I can no longer get up on the roof to install and I really do not want my son to do the installation. I may be searching for a contractor this spring.

The realization that I can no longer do what I used to do is a hard pill to swallow. It comes at a different point in everyone's life but that does not make it any easier especially when is doing something you love to do.

Everyone have a great day this Saturday. 17 degrees here this morning and it might get up to 30 today. Already started laundry and getting ready to fix breakfast. We are going to the local Home Show today in Upper Marlboro MD. Looking for ideas on sheds and pavilions. I would like to install a plastic shed, for ease of maintenance. I still do not have a green light for a pavilion, but it does not mean I cannot look at them. The pop-up canopy lasted 2 and a half years but could not make it through a third winter.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a plastic shed? I am looking for something better that the brand Suncast.

    Morning all:

IMO Harry, and I know what you are saying, but if that financial planner in Boston is making you money and managing your assets in a manner that is satisfactory to you, I would be content to stay with him. I'm self directed and really never get to talk to anyone, almost everything is now done on the computer.
Good idea on the will, saves a lot of headaches down the road, now you just need to talk to Mimi about getting tombstones :angrygirl: I have mine in place but in no hurry to have the final date put on it!

Wills are easy unless you make them complicated. Lawyers and other "professionals" can make them seem intimidating, I guess so they can justify charging you for their help. You can write a simple will yourself or you can get a free form online.

financial planner: I agree but I'm thinking maybe get a second opinion/option.
    tombstones: That's taken care of.

    Thanks for the input!

Contractors/service techs never seem to have solid prices anymore. I don't know if it is because we have grey hair or because people don't care about their "word" anymore.

The electrician doing the service to the new pole barn gave me a price. It included an overhead wire to the building. I told her I wanted the service underground. We agreed on an extra thousand... Then just before she was supposed to do it she says something along the lines of, "You'll have to have the trench dug so I can do it." Whaaaaaat??? What am I paying the extra grand for if not for the trench being dug by the contractor? I can't tell you how many "estimates" I've gotten in the last few years that turned out to be bumped almost twice as much after the work was done. What good is an estimate if it isn't at least close to the final price?

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Peoples! I guess we win the temp contest, because only 26* this morning, much warmer than you all! Supposed to claw it's way to the mid-50s', and not a cloud, so it probably will. Try to do a little more than just the bare minimum like yesterday - I did recycle a truckload of cardboard tho.... I'll find a satisfying putz, then watch football.

Might take a little bourbon to warm Mark back up, after a flight at 6*!

Someone either turned 60, or hasn't planned a will! That's my guess.

It was -10 when we launched and it hit -14 in the air. Still, a beautiful winter flight. From set-up to pack-up and the pilots and crew ready for the post-flight champagne!
