I make all my slider legs out of square and the main inner tube out of square which seems to hold up really well. I also try to keep my frame legs pretty short. Around 6” legs to prevent deflection.
    3/16 would certainly help too

Because everything under the truck is expected to get smashed and drug over rocks and trees. They are all wear items to a degree. Bumpers are more for incidental contact. I don't usually expect my bumper to hit anything. Yes, it happens, especially approach and departure, but not like sliders or skids that are there for me to intentionally drag across or piviot from rocks. I won't put aluminium under my truck unless covered with UHMWPE. Sliders are a hard no. Would consider aluminium bumpers, but I have steel now. Mostly because I can bend it back with a hammer and reweld if necessary.

Now see, for me it is the exact opposite. The Sonoran Desert is full of pinstriping bush and cactus. Sometimes I end up crossing or driving up a sandy wash, rocky bottom filled with sand. The last thing you want to do is stop in one of those washes for fear you will be digging for hours to get moving again. Often you have to forge a path through the desert broom with the front bumper and convince yourself that terrible screeching sound is not near as bad as it sounds.

Id be more worried about tearing the boots on the cvs or getting poked by branch down there than anything.

Seems to me the OP is looking for steps not sliders. Nothing wrong with buying steps and calling them sliders. Not a lot different than my neighbor who drives a Highlander that calls it his truck.

Yeah crazy how much sliders and our frames actually flex when using them. Square tube definitely has a little more bending strength/rigidity for sliders it seems like!
This actually just popped up on my Facebook memories from 6 years ago, 3/16" legs and 1/8" outer bars. Rig was actually 1500lbs lighter than my current Tacoma

I'm mostly, occasionally, pushing some bushes to the side. A couple of times I have ended up in some fairly thick brush. The tie rods guard the cvs to some extent and the TRD type skid helps keep most of the stuff out of the under carriage. I have found some FOD up in there for sure however.

FFG actually. Our FOD walk down took longer to line up for than to actually walk.

Interesting you want a aluminum rock sliders to save weight, but you are gonna load your truck with lots of camping gears. Just about everyone mentions steel vs aluminum is stronger. More companies offer variety of steel rocker sliders .

Someone mention the Westcott Designs are lighter, made of steel. Research this one! Maybe also the same weight of aluminum.

For everyday driving, Yes the extra weight of any rock sliders will decrease your mileage.

Electrolysis - when two different metals join together starting a galvanic corrosion (aluminum to steel).

Those don’t stick out nearly far enough to be effective. What brand are they?
