Probably pretty mellow today, my lady is currently in nursing school so she's strapped to her desk. But we do have dinner plans/drinks with some close friends this evening. :)

I'm really starting to feel this these past few years. It's weird though, in a way I still feel like high school was just a few years ago. Does that ever go away?

Curious whatever's thoughts when purchasing larger parts?

Buy it powder coated? Or buy bare metal and find someone to powder coat local?

I don't have any connections with a powder coated just wondering if in general it's cheaper to

    Discuss.

I bought aluminum fuel tank skid unfinished but sliders already finished. I suppose depending on what your wanting. The sliders for wife's Tacoma and they have a few areas needing touch up, Spring weather project.
I thought it much easier to purchase them finished than fart around taking them somewhere.

Really depends. I have a powder coating company that I use pretty much daily, so for me it is as simple as having one of my trucks drop it off and pick it up.

If I didn't, I would order it powder coated. Depending on the item, powder coating can get expensive, especially if they have to do the surface prep for you.

It has for me. It seems farther back now than before.
I went to live with Aunt and Uncle in Phoenix AZ, the start of my Freshman year. It was weird thinking about when I turned the age that they were when they took me in.

I just turned 50 in December. I don't feel old. I still do a lot of the same things I did when I was in my 20's. I just find I have a lot less tolerance for dumb people.

Like if I met 20 year old me today, I would kick my own ass on principal alone.

I bought sliders unfinished and had them powder coated locally and in one year they started rusting. I was told powder coating doesn’t stick well to curved areas o_O if I knew that I would have just used spray cans .

Sliders are exactly what I'm thinking about at the moment, and probably a front bumper down the road. I currently have some low profile steps which have been extremely useful for passengers and getting things on and off the roof rack. I don't do heavy off roading but I like to get out there. I had a couple instances over the summer where the steps were a liability in clearance. Figure I can get some clearance back, have a step, and add a little protection at the same time with some sliders.

New date for body shop is February 8th . Replace the rocker panels . Sliders will be cut from frame so Might as well send them to be sand blasted and then I can rattle can them before they get welded back on .

Yeah that makes sense. I have no connections to a powder-coater myself .

Yes . It’s already a pain in the ass that they are weld on and not bolted . I’ve been touching them up every year since I had them . Original PC and Rustoleum rust reformer ,rusty metal primer and bed liner over top . Many layers and they are rusty again . Maybe I will just get rid of them . :notsure:

Damn, I didn't know 2nd gens had an issue with the rockers rusting. I know the frame issue, it's one of the reasons I had to trade in my 2009. But, the rockers were solid on it.
