I have a leased 2019 TRD Sport. My lease is up in 6 months. I can buy it at the end of the lease for 27k. KBB has it listed at 34k trade value and 37k private sale. I'm not ruling out buying it at the end, but need some help with this forum's knowledge. I'd like it to be a little more off road capable. I don't want it to be a ridiculous build, but is it worth keeping and putting a suspension, better wheels/tires and probably a rear locker? I could always trade it in for a TRD OR, but not sure that makes the best sense. I know it's ultimately my decision, but just wondered if anybody could give some insight. I appreciate all comments.

Keep the sport, buy the lease, get ARB air lockers stronger than E locker rears and with prices being insane right now you might not find an affordable O/R.

If I knew now what I didn't when I bough my O/R I would have bought a sport.

Don't regret in the slightest my decision but still would have got a sport instead if I knew.

The O/R is the more capable truck stock to stock by far, the Sport is a better starting place if you're going to be modding.

I say keep it too. You are technically the original owner, know how it’s been treated and can now mod more as you wish. You can throw on some Dobinsons and upgraded wheels for under $2500.

i was in this situation last year and am glad I bought my truck because of todays market value.

Keep it. You'd be paying a ridiculous markup if you were to get a new OR right now (or even a used one).

Agree that keeping it is probably your best bet.
In normal times, if the vehicle had a buyout that was much lower than the resale value I would suggest buying out the lease and flipping it. But in this market you're likely to lose most of your profit on a new truck, and who knows how long it will take to get one.

Besides the profit you'd making on buying out the lease, you'll avoid the "nickel and dime you to death" lease turn-in process where they charge you for every little ding they find. If you'd been off road in the last 30 months, I bet you have a lot of them. In this market I think it's kind of a no brainer, but as you said, the final decision is yours.

Buy out the truck even if you end up selling it afterwards. A lease signed just before the insane covid markups are an absolute win for the consumer. You won’t find an equivalent used Tacoma anywhere near the same price.

    KEEP IT!!!

Not worth the hassle of buying a new car right now if you already have a Taco in the garage.

    Oh look, another mod....
Okay, I'll be the lone voice of opposition. Sell it! You don't want a nice, very reliable & capable vehicle that has an excellent resale value. You want a nice, used Honda Ridgeline!

*Please note, when reading the above statement, it should be read with sarcastic inflection.

It's a Tacoma. It is already equal to any other Tacoma and built to be capable offroad. I would suggest take it out and offroad with it and then change or modify as needed for what you want to do.

And let's be honest... you already have the best part.... the SKEWP!! Can only get that with the Sport or Pro...

I had a Ridgeline once before and never again. That was when I was a Honda fanboy.

If you plan on staying in a Tacoma then I'd keep it. IMO it doesn't makes sense to ditch this one and try to find a different Tacoma unless there is something you actively DON'T LIKE about this one. Chances are, you'd do the same mods to an OR anyway so why pay a bunch to make the trade in the first place?

Of course if you're moving to another (non Tacoma) vehicle the sell that thang and move on.

Myself I wanted an Off Road, so I got an Off Road. If you got the Sport, you must have wanted a Sport, so I say buy it out and keep it.

Although, I don't know why anybody would buy a Sport..... :crapstorm:

He probably gets more use out of the hood scoop then you do out of your diff loc

Curious as to why you think this? Is a hood scoop better than a larger rear differential for a build? They are the same price by me. The OR seems to have a number of factory features that are more conducive to an off-road build (brakes, etc).

I have the larger diff and the SKEWP. And Sport brakes are the exact same as every other model of Tacoma. I am not saddled with a big useless switch panel in the headliner, instead I have a wonderful place to store my sunglasses. Not seeing any advantage here for the Off-Road.
