I live about 7 miles south of Paul Smiths by Upper Saranac Lake, graduated PSC in 1970.

Not an alpine skiier anymore, still do a lot of cross country skiing though. The picture of my MR2 Spyder above is at Whiteface, the wife and I always take a day for a fall cruise through the area. We'll head down to the Champlain valley and pick up some apples at Rolfs Orchard, take the long way home, stop at the Noonmark in Keene Vally for lunch etc. The road past Whiteface is recently paves and a fun drive in the little car. It's kot 138,000 on it, just getting broken in.

My mom leases her fields to Rulfs. Such a great place. Our camp is just past Slush Pond. Placid is my hangout spot for Golf and Skiing.

lemme start off by saying this is by no means some beautiful work of art or a production product, but it does its job and does it well enough i made another with the mic on the other side i like better
made from aluminum painted black, i know for sure it holds the boating uv5r and im assuming anything like that. uses ram mount on the back with 2 screws (doesn't come with the ball)loop side of velcro i had laying around the cushion the mic and radio from aluminum body [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

DM me, frist come first gets, i could probably make a few if anyone wants one

That picture of my MR2 Spyder at whiteface was on our fall drive down to Rulfs orchard, we do a back road trip there every fall, we came back through Keen and had lunch at the Noonmark Diner, best pies around. Been a while since I've been into Slush Pond, know the road. Still waiting on my Tacoma.

Buffalo suburbs. Grew up in CNY near Cooperstown, College in Morrisville, did some time in Rochester. Love ADK, would love to be there more often. Have a DCSB OR 6MT on 'order', waiting patiently.

Can anyone recommend a place to go camping upstate? I live in Long Island and I'm looking for something about 2-3 hours away. I found a bunch of state forests but i can't tell if vehicles are allowed in the trails. I see people on google maps posting pictures in the trails but at the same time people in the comments saying no 4x4s allowed. Can anyone point me in the right direction

Theres place called North/South Lake campground near hunter Mountain. It has nice camping. There are some hiking trails nearby. There is a company called Northeast Off-Road Adventures that does driving tours to the summit of hunter mountain. I did it in September with my wife and kids had a great time. I would definitely do it again. It was a expensive but its an all day thing from like 9 to 3. Im not sure about other off roading in other places because of the the same issues you are having.

I would highly recommend the Lake George area for camping. Not sure if it was Trip or Fourth lake where there is a state park. Also the waterpark, nightlife, and food is a must. Mettowee off road park is about a half hour away. If you really want the authentic Adirondack experience rent a Sunderland cottage on Paradox lake. The cottages have lake access for swimming, fishing, kayaking etc.. Also many hiking/walking trails nearby or for more experienced hikers/climbers the High peaks area is 35 miles away. No wheelin at Paradox but Mettowee is about a 40 minute drive and Lake George about the Same.

Definitely primative campsites, i could care less about the amenities. I have a rooftop tent on the truck so i wanna be able to go on the trails with the truck and find a spot and set up for the night. Preferably something with a decent view like right on a lake/pond would be awesome. There's a few state forests close to me with lakes/ponds in the middle but its questionable wether vehicles are allowed in the trails

I’d recommend somewhere in the Adirondacks or southern VT. Moose River plains in the ADKs is cool but not much for “trails” though. Otherwise my recommendation would be central Pennsylvania, Bald Eagle State Forest to be precise, legal trails, great camping and stellar views. (You need a free camping permit)
