I didn’t want the scoop, had that on my T4R, hated it on that. A fake scoop isn’t my thing, but you do you. Maybe you should add some of those chrome plastic autozone vents on the sides lol. The brake booster is different on the OR. While I’ve not used my mall control dial for anything other than testing it, from what I’ve seen, it works well. I’ve got an auto because when I want to row gears I’ll drive something actually sporty. I quoted the person because they had an OR and suggested a sport would be a better platform for a build I was curious to why they think that.

On topic, OP should definitely buy out that lease. It would be silly not to. Even with that big fake scoop that helps not see things coming over hills :p

He might be referring to the abs system and the electronically assisted master cylinders vs vacuum booster system. The sport has auto lsd. The OR has the whole MTS/crawl type thing and is not vacuum boosted.

If the OP thinks he needs that, plus the locker and is actively thinking he would be needing these things for some medium to difficult wheeling, then by all means, consider the off-road if the price is right…or availability….or price…

For the lease buyout price compared to current market, I’d buy it. If needed, add air lockers front and rear, gears and still be money ahead. I was just curious why someone would think a sport is a better platform to build from. A 4x4 SR or SR5 will likely do everything most will ever need, but for a build cheap initial price is better than anything. I like having the factory locker and have used it twice, never used crawl yet in a real situation, but I don’t drive through sand or deep mud much. The factory locker did help get me out of a steep off camber and slick creek crossing on my way to pick up a deer. I’m not sure how long an E locker will last though, I don’t exercise it much.

I had 2 main criteria when I bought, Doublecab and MT. In Canada that meant 2 options, a Sport or a Pro. I like to modify vehicle and the price difference of $10,000 didn't seem worth it to me. So the Sport it was. If the Off-Road, in the package I wanted, was available I would have bought it. Ultimately, in the end my truck is still a Tacoma, and that is good enough for me.

My criteria was double cab, long bed, off-road. Didn’t care about color, other than not wanting black. They are all Tacomas and pretty much the same other than some minor differences. They are all very capable, some you are just removing less stuff that you paid a premium for if you are going to add suspension, wheels etc. I’m just glad I bought when I did because the current market is insane.

Do some shopping. If you can make a profit and upgrade, why not? Really depends on if you want payments for longer or not. I worked up to trading in for the OR I have now and plan on keeping it for the duration, but the market is crazy and all this talk of "mark ups" is pretty subjective and location based. I've listed exactly what I paid multiple places on this forum, and apparently it's a rare thing, but it can be done. I say test the waters.

    this and that...
manual sport has the larger rear end. sports also have hill start assist. meaning the truck will standfast on an incline or decline even with your foot off the brakes giving you enough time to engage 1st or reverse.

    The sport has brakes too??

On the 3rd gens the diffs are the same sizes IIRC but the non elocker housing is stronger has less to go wrong electronically and or get caught up and break on the trail.

Unless you mean ATRAC which gets more and more useless the larger tires you put on, and to that effect you can put larger brakes on too, and a front locker is a lot better than ATRAC or any electrical traction beeping crap.

The O/R has nothing that can't be replaced or upgraded with something even better on the sport.

If you're going to leave the truck mostly stock sure the O/R has the edge off road but if you're going to do a full build then the O/R has nothing but nuisances in the way.

The "features" the O/R has are effectively all gimmicks.

Keep in mind, I have a TRD Off-Road, I'm not just talking out my ass here.

Off road and manual equipped have a larger rear end. The off road and pro have an electric brake booster as opposed to the vacuum in the other trims (with the vacuum pump that is supposed to be replaced at 120k)

Right, but again if you're going to go full bore on mods; why pay for crap like the elocker if you're going to use air lockers or swap to a ton axle?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of my electronic booster, it's very expensive when it fails and they do fail from time to time especially if you play hard, it makes swapping to rear disks more complicated if not impossible it has a strange pedal feel, you can hear the pump run from time to time and all it really does is ATRAC and auto LSD which is useless when you have on demand lockers.

Larger tires and brakes don't play right with the factory calibrated electric booster system and with an anytime spool on demand what's the need for an electronic LSD? (That also cuts fuel and timing to limit power output and thus limit wheel slip.) Just more things to go wrong more stupid lights and beeping alarms.

All depends on what you want to do with your truck is all I'm saying.

I don't know how the CC/MTS works on the 2010 OR, but I quite like them on mine. The locker is nice too.

    CC/MTS?

Yeah I much like my elocker but honestly been considering getting a 3rd gen rear and putting an ARB locker in it if I don't do a Dana or for 9 or something and at that point the elocker will have been moot.

No brakes on sport, you just use the wind resistance from the scoop :p

OR and manual (any trim) has the larger rear differential. An AT sport SR etc has a smaller. I’ve seen enough on the crawl control or whateverthefuk that dial is for that I’d give it a try if I got stuck, couldn’t hurt. Well maybe it would hurt, when I tested on a snowy flat mining road it sounded like the truck was going to shake itself to bits, it sounds/feels horrible lol. Agree the though for an actual build air lockers > e locker. And no sense paying for it if going to tear it out. I’m not planning on anything like that, but did recently buy Deaver expos and Stage 2 Eibach coilovers and rear shocks, so my “off-road” billsteins 2600s (lol) are coming off. Way too soft and under sprung with a cap and my normal payload.

I mean I love having a stick shift so that basically instantly removes most of the O/R auto unstucking features plus I believe OP is manual and I imagine would want to stay with the MT but the only time I've seen someone try to use those auto unstuck features they spent 10 minutes just trying to get it to work just to show it off then the truck wiggled a little bit seemed like it was fighting itself started to bury itself to the frame then the computer gave up screamed at him and just quit.

    Wasn't impressed.

Oh he must of have turned the dial the wrong way. Right is to get unstuck, turn it to the left to get stuck. That’s a third gen feature. You can let the wheels dig down so it’s resting on the frame so nobody can steel your cats (emmisions, not meo meo)
