My RAS is just in my way. I'll never use it but since I have the cabinet under mine, I've thought about repurposing the cabinet for another tool.

It may not look like much progress, but there’s been about 25 hours worth of work done since my last update. All hard edges have been planed down, some with the spokeshave and hand plane, both the bow and stern mostly by hand with chisels, Since the curvature won’t let a plane sit flush. Found 4 broken staples that I missed when pulling all 1500 of them. Those really mess up your planes cutting edge. Ouch.

Now I’m just playing games with the weather, no dust collection in the garage so I need to wheel it outside in the driveway when I want to sand. And between the snow and negative temps, Minnesota has not been cooperating.

Also got an old craftsman 6-1/4 jointer that my dad wanted out if his garage. He’s a retired carpenter but still does things he considers fun for friends. Got it in trade but doesn’t need another one. Motor is good, blades all look decent. Need a new belt and then I’ll see how the bearings sound in it. It honestly looks like it’s been used 5 times in its life.

Working on desks for @Slashaar and I; working with this beautiful beech

Taking a break for a bit while doing shop drop stuff. I'm currently at 300 grit sandpaper, so I'll be clearing off the remaining dust in a bit. Just cleaning up toolmarks from the router etc
I'm really dizy, I hope that makes sense, lol.

I broke one of them immediately :anonymous:

@Slashaar said he wants to straight up return them, I figured we would just exchange them and I could maybe not scoot it across the slopped driveway with a butcher block countertop on it next time

You can get metal saw horses with 2x4 tops .. the wood can be replaced as needed.

My next replacements will have a groove routered in then for my Micro Jig clamps.

Getting all the pieces together to put a router table in the wing of my table saw. Is there anything I can do to the laminate top to keep from getting any tear out or chipping when I’m routing the hole for the router plate??

I've never had a problem with tearout. Use a sharp router bit. When I am finished, I usually hit the cut edge with some sandpaper - the laminate edge can be sharp enough to cut.

I am assuming you have the laminate glued down to something.

I have cut laminate by itself (smaller, but still oversized pieces) using aviation shears. Unfortunately, I never get a clean edge.

You got a link for ones like that? That sounds perfect.

It’s 1 1/4” MDF with a laminated top from Rockler.

I doubt you'll have a problem with laminate, but my universal advice is (1) test on scraps and (2) sneak up on the cut -- small depth or width increments.

What are you making it out of?
I did mine by gluing two layers of MDF together. It's very stable, and routing out the plate hole was simple. btw, I still have the template for that if you need, and if you ever get to Madison...

It’s from Rockler already has the laminate on it, total about 1 1/4” thick. I have the template from the plate I had in my old table. I’m putting a jessem lift in this one and it’s about 3/4” different in size. Bought another template, cost $30.
