This is a good video showing data, but with changing tech and less emissions used by ev cars and manufacturing it will be better than the current data. Tesla is building solar powered manufacturing plants that will greatly reduce those estimated numbers. As far as taking hours to charge that hasn’t been an issue for years. Tesla has 80% down to 20 minutes

Tesla says 200 miles in 15 minutes.... that's not bad, but finding a Supercharger station might be..... it's a good start.

Thinking about this, if a customer is spending 20 minutes at a convenience store while they charge, that's a better opportunity than a gas station.

That's a good point and an incentive for gas stations to add fast chargers. Pretty sure they make their money in store not at the pump. Shit my local one has a bar and electronic gaming in it.

Thanks, those were both excellent videos. I have always liked EE's videos and the way he uses real world data to build an argument. That did address a lot of my environmental and infrastructure concerns. I hope that those benefits are realized, as I do really appreciate the benefits of an EV driving and ownership experience. My other concerns are around over the air updates and the aforementioned software mandates. I'm not a software engineer, but maybe someone can chime in here-my impression is if they can update your car over the air, they can probably disable it. The mandate is what it is, though there seems to be skepticism that self driving technology will be in a place that it can safely take you to the side of the road by 2026.

I watching a story on alternative autos and they showed some new Mega Super Stations. They had all in one regular Gas, Diesel, Propane, Natural Gas, Hydrogen, Tesla Superchargers, and other EV's so they had everything covered.

Jalopnik had a story today discussing this "kill switch" and the privacy concerns that make any implementation of it very narrow in scope, and still far down the line. https://jalopnik.com/the-government-is-not-going-to-force-your-car-to-have-a-1848398873
Over the air updates are coming to everything not just EV's. I am pretty sure Toyota can do OTA's on a few cars (Lexus LS500h, NX, and Toyota Mirai) Who knows how much is possible even on Toyota connected services on the 2020+ Tacoma's. If it ever does happen, it's not going to care whether its a Nissan Leaf EV or Ford Powerstroke Turbo Diesel F-350.

The better news is that the right to repair laws are getting stronger which prevents companies from locking out customers from fixing or modifying their own stuff. Replacing the battery in your iphone is much more difficult than in a car, but if companies had their way, you would have to have an authorized dealer do the work.

How many ICE vehicles make it to 10 years? Most people spend more than 15 grand on depreciation of the ICE vehicle as they replace it in less than 10 years.

Additionally, Fuel is not getting cheaper... the cost curve for batteries is one of the steepest in pretty much any technology to date.

New battery technology is close to doubling range in the next few years.

But never mind; "but I am concerned about the grid" (SINCE WHEN???), "the range", "Can't be a man without burning diesel in my state", "I am special and EVs will never work for me" - I know change is difficult.

    - Keep trying!

    That's the move right here.

Standardization of charging hasn't been hit yet and looks like tesla had a good sit down years ago for a push for it and for them to make it. Hope it happens !

Gotta first admit, that I read the first page and the last page, but like a shitty book, the middle wasn't read, mostly because I could give two shits for any EV. I gotta add my worthless two cents though. I rented a tesla p90d in Vegas 3-4 years ago. I fully charged it, left vegas and drove to valley of fire to go hike and then drove back. The round trip including hiking areas was about 160 miles. A full charge should have been 340 miles or so. problem is that at freeway speeds of 75 the battery drains fast. I took it to the fast charge station because it literally only had 20-30 miles left, so the car could not do 200 miles at 75-80 mph.

oh and this is one prius I could get behind

dude, you have no idea... I've been trying to get through to these cavemen forever, sh*t post , after sh*t post of mine. In one ear , out the other :argue:

Instead , I just go turbo douche mode. For example:

It seems today , even in January, I'm set to make about 28 kWh with my solar panels up there on the roof. Should be over double what I'll need to fill up the model 3 performance today. Gotta troll all the c8 corvettes, 5.0 mustangs, Audis , and literally any other vehicle with wheels at stop lights. Now, I'm not saying my quarte mile of ~11 seconds is the fastest... but most of these dummies can't launch their car right , or don't have AWD to hookup on these dusty ass city streets. Sure, if we roll out on the free way , past like 90 the gas clunkers pull faster. It's all good, I wonder how many of them all "out runs" they can do before they need to figure out what that gnarly ticking sound is in the valve train, or why they are now smelling burnt oil in the turbo system. Hey how much is it to fix these new double clutch autos?

One thing I do miss , is the never ending tuning adventure (some would say money pit) you get to go on with ass gas cars. Inner cooler up grades ($), ecu tunes ($), cat back exhaust ($$), bolt-on engine and turbo BS ($$$), HD clutches and what not... only to find out you can't smog (lol) your new whip or the dealer is now refusing to warranty it.

a thing to keep in mind with EVs is that they are more efficient at city driving than highway driving....so all the published maximum ranges are city driving, which is dumb because who's gonna do 250mi+ of city driving in one shot?

I think I posted this earlier but I would only use a supercharger if you need to save time. That crap is like x3 what I pay for non tesla superchargers. In the world of public EV charging you basically pay for charging speed, not energy. Download the Plug-share app and use filters options to bring up the free ones, or cheaper ones. Many many options, just look at the map.

also , once you start driving an EV you realize that you will only need to public charge 1% of the time. Unless you are a cab driver or drive over 200+ a day for some reason , you can just use your low amp 110V wall outlet to get you what you need daily. If you live in an apartment then you will coordinate charging with your daily life like work , gym, or shopping (where chargers may be in the parking lot).

I drove my friends 2021 model 3 performance and it was a bullet, i think 0-60 was around 2~3 seconds. I can buy one for 48k and it will beat 99.999% of all cars including custom so called drag cars. You can't beat the power of electricity. I like the sound of a V8 but when it comes to bang for your buck a Tesla is light years ahead. Not heard to much about regenerative braking either. People don't realize how much charge you get from that. I drove the Tesla around town 5 miles and when i got back it had more range than when i took it.

Whatever toyota comes up with it will work great, they have been in the game since 99'

true. I know someone who took a p90d and gutted it, just left front seats and took all sound deadening and other stuff off. Can't remember the total weight savings but it was a good bit. I think he got it down to 9.95 quarter mile time.

The plaid beats that now. But for 150k it should lol. I'm sure i'll get to see the new plaid this year at the pikes peak race :) Not to go off topic but I really can't wait to see the EV tacoma in person. Has anyone drove the new rav4 prime? that will give you an idea of the power the newer toyota generation stuff will be. It was a fun little suv to drive.

Toyota will more than likely make the 4th gen Tacoma with 4 engine/motor option.

    1. 2.4L I4 Turbo gas (Lexus NX350 engine)
    2. 2.5L I4 Hybrid (Rav4 and NX hybrid setup)
    3. 2.5L I4 Plug-In Hybrid (Rav4 Prime and NX450h+)
    4. Tacoma e (Full Electric)

So enjoy out simple V6’s while we still can because they will be out and done.

Of all those, I will take option 1 with a M/T please.

You can't use the same frame and body for electric vehicles. Thats why there is so many issues trying to use a vehicle that was built for the stone age ICE engine setup.

If you think that’s cool, when you buy one wait and see how incredibly simple and scary easy the purchase / pick up process is . It’s skynet level “autonomy”. You legit pick the car you want , finance, insurance all… with just a pic of ur DL, your SSN and that’s it. The tesla app will link up with your own bank app or credit card and pull all needed funds (with just your “permission” via iPhone Face ID). Zero signature zero anything . If you’re in a popular area they will drop the car off at your home , and u inspect and swipe “accept” on the app. The end…. So amazing for not dealing with BS sales men scum bag filth trying to sell you a floor mat extended Toyota bull shit maintenance package or what ever . Legit use your pinky finger and phone and u get a car . Once you go through the process you will look down with extreme prejudice on all other ways . It’s beyond imagination how one drives to a stealer-ship gets tortured for hours on end , then gets to physically sign 200 pages of actual paper like it’s the 1800s and your doing the Louisiana purchase. Get out of here with all that ..
