what does it matter if the net difference between my trade and the new truck is the same? I don’t care if the new one is 100k, if my trade has equally increased in value I’m not sure where the hang up is?

thats the problem bud, the new trucks are $65k and your used truck probably increased by 3k in trade in value to these stealer ships

Because my truck cost 36.5K in todays dollars. Toyota has not added 63.5k worth of value in a new Tacoma.

Again, it's about value, not bottom line numbers.

It’s exactly about bottom line numbers.

where I live, I’ve lost the $2,000 discount that was available from my local dealer on the Tacoma I’m buying. My trade has increased far more than $2,000. The bottom line numbers are a net gain for me.

if you’re talking about dealer gouging “market adjustments “ then I feel for you but that BS hasn’t made it north to me yet.

same as domestic trucks, you no longer get the 10k plus in discounts but your 2-4 year old trade is worth 10k more now so the bottom line is the same amount of money in the difference.

not sure where I’m loosing you

this is in the cases I’ve mentioned. Of course if the new trucks are increasing in price at a rate higher than your used trade in value then yes that is bad

In some cases maybe but the numbers you listed aren’t reality where I live. In my case I made money vs pre pandemic on a new Tacoma.

Charleston here! I have been deep in the weeds for 2 months now, the dealerships are very proud of these TEs but I was told they are unicorns and I am starting to believe it. I found one (Army Green) at Marietta Toyota in Georgia and but lots of add-ons True MSRP was 47K got to the point before I was going to sign and they added 5K to 52K not including dealer fees and tax so passed...It maybe still there. I have found 3 ready to buy but all with MSRP plus pricing rolls in over 50K. Just will not pay that...The Luna Rock color truly is a Unicorn. Allocations are limited and my Toyota contact says if you want and see it buy because you won't get one soon. Just aren't making many...Will keep you posted.

Sorry to hear this. It’s a great trim but isn’t worth over MSRP. We debate it’s value all the time in the two threads. You can definitely get one for msrp. I’m sorry the dealers are being that way near you.

I am working on one now...fingers crossed. I would pay $1-$2k over MSRP for the 42K simple build not to screw with it anymore! Only in Luna Rock.

Haha, I went in and talked with them about this very truck a couple weeks ago. Out the door they had me at just over 60k.... I laughed. They came down to 53k with taxes and everything. I told them I'd pay msrp + tax or I would just wait... Those people are crooks.

With these mark ups and MSRPs you might as well get a TRD sport/offroad model

Lol I just finished having this conversation in the other thread.

If you’re seriously curious as to why people find this model interesting, I recommend reading through the last 10 pages of this thread and the other Trail Owners Thread. It’s a valid question that requires a bit of nuance to answer.
