The Entune stereo in my 2014 SR5 Tacoma dclb suddenly freezes and shuts off for no apparent reason. This happens when listening to music on my iPhone via Bluetooth. Then it takes a few minutes to reboot and starts over at the home screen (press "Continue"). This happens about every 15 to 20 minutes. This is super fucking annoying. Do I need to update it or something? Please share your wisdom.

This is often due to either the heat sink coming loose and the unit overheating, or a broken/cracked solder joint.

the broken solder joint is very common even in aftermarket radios, especially as the temperatures start to change.

If I pull the head unit out of the dash, will I be able to fix this? Re-solder it? Or is the unit trash?

In my experience, it only gets worse.

Google how to factory reset it, and disconnect the battery for a moment, just to cross your fingers that maybe it’s a software thing. But they’re pretty dumb radios (and at this point it’s 8 years old)

This is, unfortunately pretty common for OEM systems...Touchscreens go bad pretty often too!
