Even 5.71 gears, if you can find them, would have you going 80mph at 3900rpm.

    this is weird

Holy hell. If that Speedometer is correct, betting 4.88 gears or steeper.

Not sure why you deleted your comment to me earlier…unless you were researching my madness. :anonymous:

Which leads to checking the tach values against an OBDII app like Torque. I don't doubt that it's accurate but verifying that is where I'd start. 4K @ 70mph is screaming for even 5.29's with 33's.

Can you post a video of you driving normally, like say the street? Then another (same video is fine) of you driving on the onramp and then ultimately you getting into 5th? I need to hear what's going on.

Yeah that doesn’t sound right. I wonder if the truck feels underpowered like your not putting the power down to the road. Could be dragging and the motor is trying to keep up with the speed. Are you sure it’s just 300lbs in the back? Maybe driving around with 4x4 engaged lol

I've got a 96 5 speed with 4.10's on 32's. To hit 4K at 70MPH I need to drop to third. I also have my 97 4Runner auto with 5.29s and 35's. On the flat at 75MPH it's cruises at a comfy 2900 RPMs. If I have to pull a large hill and keep 75 MPH I'll drop it into 2nd at 4700 RPMs. lol

My 4Runner has a crawlbox. It doesn't affect HI at all. It's 1:1. lol

Is there a chance this gauge cluster was swapped out of a truck with a 4 cylinder? What does OBD say about engine speed?

3900 RPM * 2/3 = 2600 rpm, which is a much more believable speed. Assuming my WAG about how it reads is right.

sound not super good sorry, did one with the window down a bit but all the phone mic picked up was wind.

used a basic free iphone app that had high ratings for "being accurate" but its still an iPhone app

    sure seems like it lol

hmmm can you elaborate on this more?? and I've got my bed built out with probably ~75lbs of materials, topper is probably ~150-200lbs range, and then I have some misc gear in the back just about all the time. so an estimated ~300. 4x4 = off
