Odd you say that. I was just telling my son on the way to work how fast mine heated up. Almost immediately. I have cloth seats.

I wish my heater/defroster worked as well as my heated side mirrors...i press the button on, and those mirrors clear right up in a minute.

Been driving for almost 50 yrs and our RAV4H is the fastest warming up yet. Start it up and after a few seconds it loads up engine by charging traction battery and shortly after that there's heat.

I think the idling time is more theory than reality. Freakin cold here (-31 this morning) I’ve always let my Toyotas warm up in crazy cold weather. Just sold my Camry with 300k on it and it never burned a drop of oil or had any other issues. Just changed the oil regularly.

I do pretty much the same and have noticed that my 2019 Tacoma takes longer to warm up than did my 2006 Tundra.

Once I'm on the road it does warm up pretty quickly.

Interesting. I've not considered adding a catch can on a normally-aspirated engine. What model do you have? Have you ever emptied anything out of it?

I have had a couple high milers that didn't leak a bit.

My 1987 Oldsmobile 3.8 V6 had 280,000 on it - I quit driving it when the fuel lines rusted out, never leaked a drop of anything. My X drove the car 70 miles a day and she drove hard, I checked the oil every Friday and used conventional Havoline back then.

At about 2600 miles the oil would be full but suddenly be noticeably darker than the previous weeks check, the next week it would be down 1/2 quart. No oil would be consumed until the color change was noted. This happened very consistently, I just changed the oil the week after the color change, 2900 - 3000 miles.

I had a 1997 XJ Cherokee with a 4.0 inline six, that never used or leaked oil with 214,000.

Of coarse I empty mine every 3,000ish miles . During the cold months is contains all the white or tannish gooey stuff that normally collects on your oil cap. Summer months it's more black and watery. Smells little like gas also . For sure any blow by gets collected and does not make it through your intake manifold. If I had known I would have put these catch cans on my old 92 and 95 3.0 pickups .

I've had it for a few years now and glad I invested it for my truck. I plan on keeping this taco till it dies. Next oil change I'm sending oil samples into Blackstone to get tested .

about the engine taking a long time to warm up. its just the new engine. i have a 2015 v6 and i remote start it in the morning and in like 7 min of idle the temp is at 25% (50% been normal driving temp)

wifes 2015 accord takes much much longer. hate that car cause it takes forever to warm up. but that car has a very efficient engine. doesn't have to work hard so it doesn't produce a lot of heat.

i imagine its the same thing with the 2016+ tacomas. the engine is very efficient and takes a long time to warm up.

My 2001 tundra was quicker to warm up than some of my past trucks. This tacoma v6 seems to take at least 3 times longer. I noticed it immediately as soon the late fall weather came. I even brought it up to the dealer last year on a toyotacare visit. They said nothing that everything was good when the visit was over. I come to realize its just another quirk these trucks have.

Idk, we've got a 2012 prius that heats up very quickly vs my tacoma, and always amazes me the difference. That car is what you call efficient.

All this talk of cold start warm up and nobody has mentioned block heaters.
They are cheap and super easy to install https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/block-heater.591203/

I use mine when the temps drop below 0 deg F /-17 deg C. Granted the truck isn't warm when I first set off but it does seem to take a minute or so off the time to get to operating temp when it is that cold outside.

Somewhere here I read that the electric heater operates when the temp is set to high (red dot) and the fan on at least low. Works pretty good to defrost the windshield, although expecting it to melt ice right away is unrealistic.
