Not enough info. What size tires? Factory wheels or after market? What was your fuel mileage before? Any other modifications? The 3rd gens are usually a little better, but my 2nd gen is good for 16-17 mpg for city driving in stock form. Around 18-19 mpg on the highway. If you're getting 16 for everyday driving you're doing OK even with bigger tires.

Also larger tires cause both the speedometer and odometer to read low. You're actually driving farther, and faster, than you think. It could be anywhere between 3% to 10%, (maybe more) depending on what size tires you have now. If you're speedometer says 70, you're actually doing 73 to as much as 80 mph which will hurt fuel mileage. Also, if your odometer says you drove 250 miles, you could have actually driven anywhere between 260-275 miles. If you do the math by hand, and account for the difference in miles driven, you are actually getting 1/2mpg to 1 mpg better than you think.

Upsizing a modest amount won't hurt. If you stay within 1" of factory height, stay with a mildly aggressive tire, and stay with the same width you shouldn't see any measurable difference. It is wide tires with aggressive tread that make the biggest difference.

Low? I have slightly larger tires and have been getting 15-17 around town. That seems normal to me. (2nd Gen)

All i can comment is this very cold weather we've had lately has sacked my fuel mileage to a new low of just under 19 mpg.

2021 Tacoma TRD OR 3.5 liter ~270 HP with 275/65/18 Nitto Grappler tires, leveled returns 16.5 mph on the highway and 14.5 around town (accepted and love the truck)

2018 F150 3.5 liter ecoboost ~400HP with 34.5" x 11.5" Nitto Grappler tires, 4" lift returns ~ 17 mph on the highway and ~ 15 mph around town (love the truck, reliability over time ?)

    These are my results.

Fuelly tells me my overall average is 18.758 mpg, over about 19k miles. I'd say my driving is split 60/40 city/highway. Stock.

I think driving style and speed preference will account for much of the difference between a 16mpg average and an 18mpg average. In a 70mph zone, I usually cruse 72. Believe it or not, even bumping up to 75 makes the mpgs take a decent hit in this truck.

It is a Tacoma. I don’t look to have fun it in. I have a modified Trans Am for that.

Always blows my mind when people buy a truck then cry about gas mileage.

MPGs are for old people, people who think they can save the planet, or people who didn't need a truck to begin with.

I've heard this is a stellar time to sell though. But my guess is this time next year that will be over, as well as gas being back over $100bbl.

Don't linger on any go or no-go decisions.

Modifications are bad and only bad people modify.
I average 20.X when driving in a calm, dignified manner at the speed limit. In the summer, it's almost 22. It has to be your modifications combined with your driving style and environment budy.

A 500 hp car with a 6-speed, road race suspension and big brakes, or a Toyota midsize truck. I’d argue you are the one lacking a soul.

LOL! There is more than enough info. "I have a 2018 that I put larger tires on" /thread

    Please, don't.

NO FUN UNLESS YOU HAVE T-TOPS AND A MULLET! Tacoma's are the no fun zone. Only to be driven seriously.

AND TURN THAT DAMN MUSIC DOWN!

But man, you nailed it with that name... "mild" and as boring as the midwest.

Perspective I guess. I have no desire for a fast car simply a capable one, I love packing my truck to the gills and heading out camping or fishing or whatever. To each their own!
