Hyluxtek HID kit with CNLight ball bulbs

Same exact harness I have, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah the harness will unplug for m the bottom of the relay, just press one tab. Also, consider replacing the fuse that came with that harness, with a name brand one. Those Chinese ones will pop at much higher amps, putting the wiring at risk.

 

Yes, you should definitely start with checking the relays. And yes, they are replaceable.

I didn't have good experience with my Morimoto harness. Besides for both relays going bad within two years ( which is still considerably longer than your experience), I also has issues with grounding, crimp-on the ground connector became loose on the wire and didn't always work. And to make matters even more confusing, the harness is using two separate ground points. Actual ground wire that I mentioned previously is powering only the relays. Ground for the ballasts is being supplied from your vehicle's male plug (the one you unplugged from the bulb).

My apologies for possibly making it a bit confusing, but unfortunately there are a few failure points the need to be checked/ ruled out on the harness, before moving on to the ballasts.

 

Did you end up replacing the relays or getting a whole new harness?

I checked the relays on my harness this evening and they seem OK, no sign of corrosion or a bad connection. So with my symptoms of a random side failing to work, im thinking i have 1 or both of my relays are bad.

Replacement relays would be ~$30, but wondering now if I should just replace the whole harness? Since the DD harness for example only uses 1 relay, it would be cheaper to replace in the future if I had the same issue.

 

You can get a 5 pack of relays for 12 bux. Test the harness. Shouldn't be too difficult. Or tap on the relays, when one light fails to fire up.

 

Replaced relays first. Rewired whole harness while looking for the faulty (what turned out to be) ground. Then ended up replacing the harness for a single relay one.

 

Got a link to that 5 pack? Having trouble finding something I’m sure is compatible

 

Maybe yours is different, aren't they just normal 12v relays?

Just wanted to follow up to you and the thread for future readers. I inspected the relays the other night to see if the prongs appeared corroded or something, and they looked brand new. So I figured it must just be the relays itself with the symptoms I was having. Purchased a 5 pack of relays on Amazon for $20 and replaced them tonight and all issues seem to be solved.

I relocated the metal bracket from the Morimoto relays to the new ones, so I could still mount them with the single bolt at the battery ground, and that was kinda a PITA but overall it was super easy.

well...i spoke too soon. after replacing the relays i fired the truck up 3 times last night and both lights came on every time so i thought i was good.

this morning just 1 fired on though, so looks like im SOL on the relays being the issue.

From here, how do i determine if the wiring harness is bad or the ballasts?

 

When one doesn't fire up, check input TO the ballast, make sure you're getting 12v? Be careful w those ballasts though. Theres some funky voltage goin through that thing lol.

 

hate to be a burden on this thread but im becoming very frustrated. still having the same issue of either none, or only 1 light firing up up. if i flick them on and off repeatedly for 20-30x i can eventually get both to fire but damn driving with only 1 is getting old. again, its different each time on which light decides to fire up (its not consistent).

so far ive tried replacing the relays, put dielectric grease on the prongs of the new relays. today i cut off all the heat shrink near the relay connection to see if the crimp on ground connection was loose, or the splice from the ground going to each relay and they are all rock solid.

since both lights have the capability of working, im convinced its not the ballasts but some weird wiring issue? but im not sure what. probbaly would be best to just get a new harness at this point. however im not seeing that the original Diode Dynamics one is still available? or am i wrong?

 

Whenever u find one that's not firing, track it down. Does the plug going into the ballast have power? Etc.

 

okay your post inspired me to get out there and just start trying stuff. focused on the signal wire since that seems to be the issue im having, as in it doesnt know when to fire the lights, so i made sure the polarity was correct and unseated each connector (1 on each side of adapter) and applied dielectric grease. seated them back together real well, and that seems to have fixed it (for now...)

I've been there man. It's fuckin annoying. Early in the morning, fire up the truck to go to work and one bulb won't fire. Last thing u wanna deal with half asleep haha.

The relays ended up fixing my issue. But eventually I got tired of morimotto and ended up going to denso slim ballasts and D2s bulbs. Haven't had an issue since.

 

Does anyone know other than Diode Dynamics, who makes a single relay harness to replace my Morimoto one? Still having some issues and at this point I just want to replace it, but ideally want one that uses a single relay.

The Diode Dynamics one doesnt seem to be listed on their website anymore
