Give me “a lot better but still not elite” and I’ll let you off the hook, maybe. You were the one insisting he didn’t matter at all. There are certainly more consistent arms and he does the stupid thing out of nowhere but for whatever reason they play way better for him. Like it or not I can’t ignore that. By all accounts it’s an extremely complex offense to run and yet you just don’t see the delay of game calls or rampant confusion we used to see with much simpler systems we had under Nolan, Singletary, or the other CF’s. Jimmy knows it and that matters more to Kyle than his mistakes. The poor record of his backups made a draft there a necessity but that should demonstrate that there’s something he’s doing right. It’s not a small difference, it’s huge. I hope Lance is the next great thing but it seems most assume that’s a foregone conclusion. It isn’t. I don’t discount his faults and cringe with dismay just like everyone else at times but I remember all the losses and disappointments from before. The pathetic arms, confusion, and lack of the sense of leadership. I got so sick of hearing “I need to look at the film” when it was obvious we were clueless on offense even when we had some good players or the merry go round of offensive coordinators feeding Alex a new system every year. The Harbaugh years with Colin were fun but ultimately not sustainable and the front office was still a huge mess with players leaving in droves from lack of trust/faith. Try not to dwell on Bad Jimmy so much, he’s more than that. He can win not because he’s great but because he’s a winner. Have some faith.

He still seems mentally fragile and streaky. With the roster they built they were supposed to run away with everything and needed an AZ collapse to win the division and squeak the #4 seed. He did pull it together at the end of this game though. Great arm when he’s on.

I think people get down on JG quicker than they should because he's so high priced. Just my thoughts.

I think there are a dozen guys that could be put in his place and perform better. He’s not asked to do much. That’s all. They don’t win because of him. The game plan is designed to keep him from determining the outcome. Defense, special teams, run the ball. Perfectly avg quarterback you can win with if everything else is right. Like tannehill. Probably top 15 ish, not top 10. And if he’s your Qb, you are always looking for another one.

Money, missed games, missed targets, a lot of totally reasonable reasons. I just feel they don’t appreciate what they have while they have it. There aren’t enough truly elite QB’s to go around so most of the time you’re going to have to make do with what you have. They offered the money and he signed the contract, not like some players that hold out for more.
